Advocates of recreational marijuana use are looking to an upcoming vote in Maine as an indicator of whether the East Coast is ready to follow in the footsteps of Colorado and Washington by legalizing cannabis.
Voters in Portland are being asked whether they want to make it legal for adults 21 and over to possess -- but not purchase or sell -- up to 2.5 ounces of pot. The Nov. 5 vote is being eyed nationally as momentum grows in favor of legalizing marijuana use.

It may come as a surprise to you, but some of the founders smoked marijuana. You would probably be surprised who around you smoke that you haven't the first clue about. Not everyone that partakes of the plant is non-productive just like not everyone that drinks is a full blown alcoholic.
If God didn't make it illegal (He permits it), why shouldn't we?

You’re right about that. It is a schedule 1 “drug” in the same category as heroin and opium. Those are derivatives (i.e., manufactured and refined) from another substance. Marijuana is just a plant and besides its use for altering reality, it has HEAVY industrial uses that could directly benefit the United States by creating jobs and industry.
In fact let’s carry it on. What carries the spirit of the Lord and what carries the devil.
The stark fact is that INANIMATE OBJECTS can be used by LIVING HUMANS for EITHER purpose. A drug, a gun, a tool, or what have you. Stereotyping objects as evil only stultifies freedom.
There are low/no THC varieties of the stuff that are used for rope, etc. hemp today. Still. I’ve myself long stood for not stereotyping inanimate objects.
No the legalization of the object is evil. Putting the stamp of approval of society on something like that is horrible.

I don’t think it is so much any of “us” defining the activities of man, I think it is the government acting in such as way that “classes” of man (and woman) are not held to consequence for the actions. When we can actually get back to personal responsibility (i.e., answering for bad decisions made) applied evenly across the board, problems tend to take care of themselves. All we are left with today is a government that coddles bad behavior and I can very well see why it pisses a LOT of people off; especially people who are doing everything right with no recognition.
