Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Thursday urged Virginia Republicans supporting Robert C. Sarvis, the Libertarian candidate for governor, to come home to the GOP and vote for Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, the partys nominee.
I consider myself to be a libertarian conservative, a libertarian Republican, Paul said in a phone interview Thursday. A lot of things (Cuccinelli) talks about are free-market, limited-government, leave-me-alone government. I think there is a lot to like there.
What Im excited about in Ken Cuccinelli is that he is smart, he is articulate, and he has a keen sense of justice, Paul said. Cuccinellis attempt to challenge the Affordable Care Act in court was one of the things that catapulted a nationwide debate over the constitutionality of the health care law, he said.
Paul, a potential Republican presidential contender for 2016, will campaign with Cuccinelli in Fairfax County and Virginia Beach next week. His visit to the state comes as the attorney general faces headwinds from members of his own party who have defected to Sarvis.
In a recent Quinnipiac University poll, Cuccinelli had the support of 81 percent of Republicans, but 11 percent back Sarvis votes that Cuccinelli likely will need Nov. 5 as he trails Democrat Terry McAuliffe in several polls.
Paul said he understands the struggle of third-party politics, but he asked Sarvis sympathizers to consider the consequences of their vote because libertarians are unlikely to change the course of politics.
I know that they want what they want. But in the end, if you back a third party, you might help out the Democrats, and barring some dramatic transformation in our country, were probably still going to have two dominant parties and smaller third parties, Paul said.
My advice is, look at how you really can best transform things in this country, and the best way to shape politics in this country. I really think it is through the two-party system, for better or worse, he said.
Once voters realize that Sarvis isnt going to win, they should decide if Cuccinelli is more to their liking than McAuliffe and vote for the Republican, Paul said.
They could help get Ken Cuccinelli across the finish line, he said.
Just another pro abortion, open border Libertarian shmuck. The base principle of libertarians is non aggression but assholes like Sarvis have no problem with people aggressing against unborn babies. He makes me ill.
Ah, ok. I’ll sit back and watch, then. :D
His timing for this endorsement is perfect given the attention span of the average voter.
GO COOCH!

I really with the Libertarian party would find some candidates who were more emphatic on social liberalism. Why can’t they, even *OCCASIONALLY*, take more votes from the bad guys???
The big L party does run such people in parts of the country. But they’re usually way, way, way over the top (free government weed types) *and* the media Dems are slaves to tells them that to vote for them is insane (just like they say voting for Republicans is), sooooo....
This is the lesson that I have been saying for many years.. If we are ever going to push our Conservative agenda we have to do it in the GOP primaries..
Oh great.. Because that worked so well against President Obankruptus..
Do it too far in advance and it gives the Alinskyites time to mess with the message.
Oh great.. Because that worked so well against President Obankruptus..

While I will concede President Mittens would have been better than Obama - I’m honestly having a hard time trying to convince myself that John McCain would have been better. For sure we would have had a better veep, but between Obammie and McTraitor?
When the history of our era is written, it may well be said that Obama's greatest contribution was that he kept John McCain from the Presidency".
When the history of our era is written, it will be that POSHITUS breathed new awareness of COMMUNISM that has been written out of the history books over the last 50 years.
I agree, I didn’t vote for McNut, I voted for Palin, and that my FRiend was the hardest vote I ever placed.. Believe me it was hard enough to vote for Mittens, but not near as difficult as it was for Juan..
Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors. [but hes not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.
