GOP Establishment Signals Primary Fight Against Tea Party Favorite Mike Lee
Breitbart ^ | 10/25/2013 | Michael Patrick Leahy

Posted on 10/26/2013 9:26:57 AM PDT by Viennacon

Tuesday, 79-year old Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), now serving his seventh term in the Senate, signaled that he and other members of the Republican establishment are likely to encourage a primary challenge to first term Senator Mike Lee (R-UT).

Lee upset former Senator Robert Bennett (R-UT) in the 2010 Utah Republican primary convention in the Tea Party's first major primary win over a Republican establishment politician.

Hatch told the Deseret News and KSL NewsRadio that "[i]t's time now... for Lee and other tea party Republicans to be 'rehabilitated' for refusing to pass a budget bill needed to keep the government operating unless money for the act better known as Obamacare was removed."

Hatch pointedly refused to endorse Lee for re-election to the Senate in 2016. "I'm not going to get into endorsements at this point in any way," he said. "The tactics were not the right tactics. It takes experience sometimes to make sure you can use the right tactics," he stated.

Former Utah Governor and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman has also joined the establishment crowd attacking Lee. The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that Huntsman "said Lee has bucked a trend of senators who work to grow this small state in a way that makes people proud." According to Huntsman, in Utah "[y]ou don’t have ideological wack-jobs... For all of its labeling as a red state, underneath it all Utah is a pretty pragmatic Western state, a just-get-it-done ethos.”

Spencer Zwick, a Utah resident who was a key member of Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign's leadership team, also criticized Lee. "Business leaders that I talk to, many of whom supported him, would never support his reelection and in fact will work against him, myself included," Zwick told the Post. According to Zwick, Lee is just a "showhorse."

Not that I’d punch a chick.

But she needs to wake the hell up about a party winning power if they do nothing of value.

I'm in UT and I'm with you. RINOs must be identified and thrown out! RINOs are the front line invaders of the LIB/DIM mental-mutants. Liberalism in all its insidious forms is mental illness.

Do you think Mike Lee will survive his reelection?

Orin Hatch and Jon Huntsman are going to mount a campaign against him, and promote this this “Thomas Wright,” the former UTAH, GOP chairman.

I think some of the teaparty candidates that get voted in will turn out to be RINOs also.

The GOPe has fail written all over it. The sooner Conservatives dump it for Sarah’s Freedom Party the better.

Time will tell. I hope so. Even UT suffers from the infestation of some LIBs/DIMs and RINOs. There is no escape from them, apparently. However, many people are energized for Senator Lee. They realize that the “business as usual” degenerates are the enemy of Freedom.

Thanks so much for telling me.

Come 2015, we’ll make sure Mike Lee has plenty of money to fight those dirty, rotten, traitors.

Orin Hatch should have been put out to pasture.

Never cared much for that chicken, Hatch. He has been a rino for years. He was a liberal back in the 70s and his stance has not changed other than to become more liberal No more rinos, elites or false candidates such as the rube. If they must walk thru fire to prove themselves, we’ve plenty of matches and kindling.

this is a pretty bizarre discussion to be having now...2016 is two election cycles from now...Hatch announcing he won’t endorse, we may need a primary challenge, etc. Pretty absurd.

He went there a LONG time ago. I used to like him. He TALKS a good game. Then he compromises with democrap friends. I swear the left has something on Hatch.

NO MORE RINOs! NO MORE!!! Primary these a holes, and if our primary challenger loses the primary..... Vote for the DEMOCRAT! YES! Get rid of these POSes once and for all. ONE election cycle and those that are left, will be crapping in their pants.

WHAT? We might lose our power? WHAT POWER? We'll lose our chance to take over the Senate. If I hear that one more time I'm gonna HURL!

Time for HARDBALL politics. Third party? EVEN BETTER! I'M THERE!

“We have to hang onto the House. We have to gain seats in the Senate. We have to run a moderate for president, if we want to stand any chance of winning.”

BULL$HIT, How many times are we going to fall for these tired old saws?

Ann Coulter is a Bill O’Reilly. Right half the time and clueless the other half. Even Palin is trying to ride the fence, keeping all her options open. She supported McCain & Hatch. Time for Sarah to actually choose a side.

Beck is all in, Hannity is almost there, Rush is coming around. We need to go on the attack! Call a LIE a LIE. A president who doesn't get 9th grade math is a DUNCE! Challenge the media. Stop accepting their biased premises. Don't answer their stupid questions, Ask THEM tough questions instead. Find someone with BALLS (male or female) who will ask tough questions in the daily news FARCE (conference).

Our country was founded by brave statesmen and patriots. All we have now is a bunch of sissy COWARDS.

Then: “Give me liberty or give me death”

Now: “Give me a health care exemption and give me a lifetime retirement for 2 years of service or give me a lobbyist job in the private sector.

The GOP has become a geriatric club for hasbeens that still think they are relevant. Have the decency to step aside and support a new guy or girl with fresh ideas instead of pandering to the rat party to keep your jobs.

Don’t think Cruz and Lee lost. I think they won big. They screamed and screamed and screamed Obamacare should not go forward. they made their position very clear because of the gov;y shutdown. The establishment Republicans joined with the Dems to go forward with Ocare. Then as soon as gov’t was open again catastrophe hit. Millions are losing their healthcare. Millions are paying triple the premiums. these are all things Cruz-Lee were saying.

Without Cruz-Lee doing what they did and creating so much visibility people would not know that they were right and the Dems-Rinos were worng.

So now what do we have? The dems want to delay Ocare becasue it won’t work. This is what Cruz-Lee offered. The gov’t shutdown did not need to occur becasue the dems now want this but were too stubborn to do this a few weeks ago.

Basically Cruz-Lee showed they were right all along and now tens of millions are going to lose their healthcare, tripled premiums, and in the end get nothing in return. these are all things Cruz-Lee were screaming about and all is coming to pass.

In the end Cruz-Lee have won and more importantly shown that the Rino establishment was the real problem all along.

The people who were fooled by Hatch wanted to be fooled and they'll continue to get fooled in coming elections.
