Rep. Nancy Pelosi believes the Washington Redskins should find a new name.
In an interview with The Hill, the California Democrat said it “probably would be a good idea if they change the name.”
The House minority leader is the latest politician who has embraced a name change. President Obama earlier this month said he would “think about changing” the team name if he owned the football team.
Pelosi noted that when she was growing up in Baltimore, the city didn’t have a football team.
“So one of the first songs I ever learned in my whole life was, ‘Hail to the Redskins.’ I didn’t have the faintest idea what I was saying, but I’ve known it forever,” she said.
Pelosi noted she has been focusing on other issues, but is aware that Native American groups have criticized the name as a slur.
Other politicians who have called for a change include Reps. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) and Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and Dels. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Eni Faleomavaega (D-A.S.).
Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a civil rights hero, told The Hill in March that the Redskins should consider a name change.
Redskins owner Dan Snyder has said he will never change the name.

Yes, because that’s clearly the most important thing for Americans to concern themselves with, the name of a football team. It ranks right up there in importance with the inappropriate violence displayed in Tom and Jerry cartoons.
From ‘53 to ‘84 there were the Baltimore Colts. C’mon Nan, you’re telling the world what a fossil you are if you can’t claim any of that era as ‘when you grew up’. You’d have to be from ‘35 or earlier...
Dan Snyder should make large campaign contributions to all these libtards...and when they criticize HIS teams name, ask for his money back....

Were I the owner(s) of the Redskins, I’d send Madam Pelosi and engraved invitation to bid for the team, or tell her to STFU.
Who asked politicians to weigh in on such matters? As if the lawmakers in Washington have nothing else to do, nothing more important on their plate, like reducing the debt?
Who cares what these people think anymore and I am not saying that because I detest this particular Democrat but because they’re dealing with the trivial and not leading the nation forward.
