Ken Cuccinelli II is planning a frenetic schedule with a handful of big-name Republican surrogates as the race for Virginia governor draws to a close. Terry McAuliffe, by contrast, is spending somewhat less time in the public eye aside from a pair of high-profile events.
The differing strategies illustrate the pecking order as the hard-fought contest nears its end. Cuccinelli (R) is consistently trailing in the polls and cant afford much of an advertising presence on the airwaves, so hes counting on word-of-mouth and media coverage from live appearances to stay afloat.
McAuliffe (D) is nursing a lead and has the cash to keep up a steady drumbeat of ads, giving him little incentive to expose himself to the press more than necessary.
Cuccinelli is planning to do multiple daily events around the state from Friday through Tuesday. His itinerary includes events Saturday in Spotsylvania and Prince William counties with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and appearances in Warrenton and Culpeper Monday with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). And former representative Ron Paul (R-Tex.) will join Cuccinelli in Richmond on Monday evening.
McAuliffes campaign has said that he will appear at a rally with President Obama on Sunday afternoon at Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, and he will join forces with Vice President Biden on Monday morning in Annandale to kick off a day of canvassing.

You are absolutely right about the demographic shift. And I think this awful Wendy D. will run much better in TX than most Republicans seem to think.
Rush probably won’t zero in on one state because his listeners know nothing about the VA election and would be confused if the race were presented in detail.
TX has fought off the liberal onslaught from the central cities and the Rio Grande Valley from heavily united rural and small-town voters, but they will soon be outnumbered. VA 2013 is the TX of 2020.
Levin’s program is more interesting than Rush’s, but I have not been listening to Levin for that many months. He has awful repetitive commercials; well both do.
Levin was burned badly when he endorsed Orrin G. Hatch.
Even if Cuccinelli were poised to win, the results would be stolen from him, a la Franken in MN.
And dont you red staters in Texas go tsk tsk and think its a shame that it happened to them because your day is coming.
Sorry VA had to take on the disease. I’m praying for Ken every 20 minutes.
Rush listeners are more savvy than the average “low information” listener.
If it gained Cooch even one vote, then he should talk about the race.
Levin should be on fire tonight. He’s been endorsing Ken non-stop. They are personal friends...
If you stream Levin, you can avoid most of the commercials and his site is free
if you stream Rush, you get his satirical
bits which are often hilarious.,,,ie “the Spatula store”.
PM me if you want to know how to sign up.
I don’t think his endorsement of Hatch hurt him. He’s made up for it by boldly endorsing Conservatives most of the time.
At least he takes a stand, unlike his buddy Hannity who is too scared of losing his job at Fox.
“VA 2013 is the TX of 2020”.
Good analysis Theo.
He’s cute, hot and smart! Just like all my nephews and great nephews....since no babes of my own! :)
Doing a Virginia ping here in hopes ALL Virginia Freepers help Ken pull off a big win! Donate if you can, make calls if you can, put signs in yards, whatever you can do! Just remember every little bit helps!!
ping
I will help Ken pull off a win but I can't afford a big win.
I voted for the Cuch today after making my way past people trying to give me a voters guide. I am sure they assumed I was voting for that carpet bagger mcaullife since I am black. However, I voted straight Republican.
GO GO GO!
