Republicans should vote 'Present' on Keep Your Plan Act

All Congressional Republicans should vote 'Present' on the Keep Your Plan Act (or any other Dem bill regarding Obamacare).

If they vote for it, they will be complicit when the crap hits the fan, and will be obligated to help fix the mess that results (putting the toothpaste back in the tube). If they vote along with the Dems, they will be sending the message "we're all in this together now."

If they vote against it, the Dems will use it as an albatross, and use it to hang blame on the republicans forever.

It's a trap, and seemingly a clever trick by the democrats to put the republicans in a box over a situation that the democrats created.

But there's a great way out: Vote 'Present'

They passed this bill in the middle of the night, without reading it, on Christmas Eve, with overwhelming public support against it, without a single republican vote.

And then they lied to everyone about it.

We want nothing to do with it, other than repeal. We will NOT be party to fixing somethi.ng that we do not believe in. "Period." "End of Story"

This is the only strategy that will work. And the republicans must all be in solidarity on this. The RINO's and Tea Partiers can all agree on it, and all have the exact same talking points.

VOTE 'PRESENT'!

And, of course, the icing on the cake, if the media asks about the ethics of voting 'present', is the fact that Obama did it 129 times.

How can you mandate the insurance companies to roll back and give people their old policies under the current regulations?

Secondly, this is again a change in the law that was passed.

I’d say, table the damn thing until next year, 2014, and let people feel the pain of this.

Pure and simple, the Dems wish to limit public sentiment about this, and put a hold on the misery.

Implement the law, and don’t fall for this trap.

Meaningless.

It’s a meaningless act meant to placate the masses.

Obamacare is designed to destroy all existing private insurance plans. Congress can make an act ‘allowing’ you to keep your plan - but if there ARE NO PLANS except government plans - then the act is just more window dressing.

The GOP SHOULD vote present. But like idiots - they will jump on this bandwagon for appearances sake.

IMO, the “keep your plan” act will hasten the death spiral that will end private insurance and usher in single payer.

It is a trap, republicans would be part owners and the collapse would be the evil republicans fault!

Disagree partially

If a fix involves eliminating some of the mandates forever under the guise of ‘keeping your insurance’ it will kill the Obama care core: the exchanges.

but I see little benefit to temporary changes.

Yes - but if we vote ‘present’, it will be THEM who killed it, not us!

RE :”Yes - but if we vote ‘present’, it will be THEM who killed it, not us!”

I understand what you are getting at like when the GOP forced an Iraq vote in 2002 to get Dems on the record so they would also be to blame later when it went bad.(which didnt work in the end, GOP still got all the blame anyway)

At this late stage with Dems calling for a bill that Obama doesnt want the only way I see the GOP losing is if they were to somehow help make Obamacare work, if thats even possible.

Democrats own Obamacare. Too many votes. Too many statements on cam.

A vote on the right bill could make the GOP look responsible and caring (and they poll in the teens on those two now) at the same time blowing a hole in Obamacare, with Dems leading the charge.

Its a fun thought.

Put a three year repeal on it. Have it go into effect on January 1, 2017. This way for the 2016 races we get all the candidates on the record.

Clean slate.

Yes it IS a trap, but that does not mean it can’t be useful.

IMHO, the House should NOT DISCUSS “fixing” Banana-care:

(1) unless Harry Reid’s Senate FIRST passes a “fix” that is satisfactory to Republicans because:

(a) it limits fees to “tort lawyers” for any “malpractice” suit at $200 hour. Tort lawyers who bill or double-bill for more hours than they actually work will be guilty of fraud.

(b) Citizens will be allowed to shop for insurance “accross state lines”.

(c) High-deductible policies will be expressly allowed.

(d) Rational coverage choices (such as: no pregnancy coverage for males) will be expressly allowed.

AND

(2) unless President Obama states, in a nationally televised interview, that he will NOT veto the Senate’s bill to “fix” Obama-care, if that bill passes the House and reaches his desk.

Speaker Boehner can just say that the House wants some assurance that the President “...is not STILL playing a blame-shifting game.”

Is that an option? Every vote I see on C-Span has Aye’s, Nay’s, and Not Voting. So where does ‘Present’ fall in with that?

Just did a quick wiki on voting ‘present’ (it’s really just a way of abstaining): This is for the House - not sure about the Senate, but it’s been well-documented that Obama voted ‘Present’ 129 times during his short tenure.

Teller vote: The House may hold a teller vote, in which each member signs a green card for “Aye,” a red card for “No,” and an orange card for “Present” (an abstention), and hands it to a Clerk, who counts the votes.

Vote by electronic device: The House may vote by electronic device. Members vote by inserting a plastic voting card, which doubles as a photo ID, into terminals located on the backs of seats in the House chamber. The member presses a red button to vote “No, “a green button to vote “Aye,” and a yellow button to vote “Present.” Members’ names are displayed on a blue, backlit panel above the Speaker’s chair, and when a member votes, a red, green, or yellow light appears adjacent to his or her name. Displays on the side walls of the chamber display a running vote total.

Boy it sure would be fun if we could pull this off!

“KEEP YOUR PLAN” doesn’t go far enough.

It’s about CHOICE. You shouldn’t have to be grandfathered in.

YOU should be able to choose whichever plan you want. PERIOD.

I totally agree. That’s why we should want NO PART of fixing Obamacare. We don’t want to change Obamacare. We don’t want to fix it. We don’t want to make it better.

They passed it without ANY republican votes. Didn’t even read it. It’s THEIR mess, and we want it gone.

ANY bill that addresses CHANGING or MODIFYING or FIXING Obamacare should be ABSTAINED FROM!

We should NOT vote NO and we should NOT vote YES!

Either way would make us COMPLICIT in Obamacare.

We must let them take complete and total ownership of the mess that they created without us!
