WASHINGTON - President Obama will allow insurance companies to continue offering individual health plans that do not meet the standards of the Affordable Care Act through next year, according to a Democratic source on Capitol Hill familiar with the plans.

The plan, which the president will announce Thursday morning, is intended to placate millions of consumers who have received cancellation notices from insurers in recent weeks. Obama had repeatedly promised that consumers would be able to keep plans that they liked.

The president was under intense pressure from Democrats on Capitol Hill to find a fix. House Democrats have increasingly threatened to support a Republican proposal due for a vote Friday. And Democratic senators have offered their own legislative fixes.

Some companies might engage and pursue this. Most will ask how it’d work, and worry about turning this around so quick. A figure on the numbers? That’s the real issue. Usually, you’d have two or three months to toss the numbers around and reach a conclusion over next year’s rates.

The problem I see...what if half the companies say “no”? Even if five percent say no....you’ve got a big mess.

Exactly! What makes the Dems think the Insurance companies will do it? Just to be nice to their customers so that they can screw them over next year? Companies don’t typically like to dick over their customers twice. Especially for the same reason.

I’d take the hit now. For the larger companies, we’re probably not talking much money. Take the hit and the PR hit and let it go away. Be done with it.

If they give into this, they’ll be dealing with the PR mess for another year. Who wants that?

This is FUBAR

They rolled over early on expecting to have financial benefit for their companies. I am like an elephant. I remember these cowards falling into line back in 2010.

“Sounds like he’s our Supreme Dictator who can determne unilaterally what will and will not be allowed.”

The Wizard of Oz will simply wave his Magic Wand, and make all this bad news go away.

And anyone that DARES to mention it from here on out will simply be a RACIST, or worse, an EVIL CHRISTIAN!

Perhaps nobama should pay Ted Cruz a finders fee for figuring a (temporary) way out of this mess.

Damn sure glad I don’t work for an insurance company right now.

“None of these articles asks the ins. companies what they think of this.”

If I'm not mistaken I think 0, or more likely valerie, told the insurance companies not to criticize the ACA...or else. The same thug tactics he's been getting away with from the beginning.

Obama thinks he’s a friggin dictator. If changes in the law are needed it’s up to congress.

the only branch that can’t or won’t legislate in this post-constitutional gov’t is the legislature.

Allow or require? Why would the insurance companies reinstate the canceled plans? In fact, I’m not sure how they would do it.
