CALL TO ARMS: Texas A&M law prof says it’s time to repeal Second Amendment

A full-time professor on the faculty of the newly-minted Texas A&M University School of Law called for the repeal and replacement of the Second Amendment on Friday.

The professor, Mary Margaret “Meg” Penrose, made her controversial declaration during a day-long panel symposium on gun control and the Second Amendment at the University of Connecticut School of Law in Hartford.

UConn’s main student-run journal, The Connecticut Law Review, organized the event, according to Connecticut Public Radio. It was well-attended, primarily by law students, law professors and local attorneys.

I second (or third) your motion to remove the unnecessary preamble to the Second Amendment. Strike "A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state," as well as a couple of frivilous commas.

Resolved: The Second Amendment shall read:

"The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

She is daring them to punish her. They acted stupidly in hiring her int he the first place... The first stupid thing the regents did though was to open a law school for TAMU.

I’d like to see a broom closet in the basement with no phone, no lights and no desk and no classes in her future.

What a shame.

“Time for some downsizing, in education.
Long overdue.
America needs to take back our education system.
Teach our children. Stop brainwashing. Teach.”

You are absolutely correct. There is very little original or creative thought in much of academia anymore. It is a very agenda-driven enterprise now, and without question no longer represents the ‘best and brightest’ - if it ever did. The academy has lost humility, and lost curiosity. Without those, there is no ability to self-assess or grow beyond one’s dogma. It's a very sad state of affairs.

I'd suggest A&M "un-mint" their law school, and follow Andrew Carnegie's rejection of Princeton president Woodrow Wilson's desire for a law school.

Carnegie though rowing was a much better pursuit for young men than the law.

Princeton got a really nice rowing facility as a result.

I am completely in favor of ending Tenure.

Now.

We need to stop playing mamby-pamby with liberals.

If they want to teach, then hire them.

If the want to goof off or run some other agenda, they’re out. I don’t care if they’ve been there for 15 years.

I’m completely serious.

Out.

Well, it is Texas A&M (my uncle was a professor there. He died many years ago. I think he taught biology, but it’s been a LONG time). Instead of a rowing facility, a rodeo facility might be a better match. ;-)

American citizens right to bear arms will in no way be restricted...

Not good enough. The definition, scope, meaning, etc. of the words "right to bear arms" has to be established. Otherwise the "banners" will just press on and claim that whatever they want to ban is not covered by the "right to bear arms".

You can't ‘spread the wealth around’ without the point of a government gun -that’s the bottom here.

You can't STEAL people's property if they can shoot back.

Prof Penrose needs to study both the Constitution & the background preceding repeal of the 18th Amendment (Prohibition). Amending the Constitution was intentionally made to be an extremely difficult process.

Getting three fourths of the state legislatures to vote to ratify a proposed amendment is a chore, which she as an obvious feminist leftie should remember from the abortive “equal rights amendment” which foundered in 1978 just three votes short of ratification, once its radical intent was made known to the public.

Her proposed “states’ rights solution” to gun control is disingenuous; liberals foam at the mouth when the words “states’ rights” are even spoken, and they demand Federal gun control laws so the “strict states” aren’t being victimized by guns flowing over their borders from the states that are “lax” on gun control.

What a lightweight! That twinkie couldn’t argue her way out of a biodegradable Whole Foods grocery bag.

A&M needs to take a real close and hard look at this person.

Since he is keen on repealing rights, then let’s repeal the 1st amendment since without the 2nd it will fall victim immediately. He can then just shut the Hell up.

“Texas A&M being “Agriculture and Military””

Nope, that stood for Agricultural and Mechanical.

Got to give this prof credit...at least she’s going about it the right way. No need to fire or shut her up either...the best and easiest way to defeat these people is to allow them to be open and honest about their intentions.
