A shocking dashcam video shows the moment a New Mexico state trooper opened fire on a minivan with five children inside after a route traffic stop went horribly wrong. Now the New Mexico State Police have opened an investigation into the conduct of the troopers - and driver Rihanna Ferrell and her 14-year-old son are facing charges. The traffic stop took place south of Taos, New Mexico, on October 28 - but it has sparked local outrage after the video from a state police dashcam went public. SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO
Footage shows the officer casually walk up to the vehicle and begin speaking with the driver. When the officer walks away, presumably to run the license and registration and decide whether to write a ticket, the van takes off. A short chase ensues before the driver again relents and the van makes its way to the side of the road.
The officer at this point has had enough. He storms up to and opens the driver’s side door while ordering the driver out of the vehicle. She refuses and a struggle ensues as children inside the Ford can be heard screaming. The driver’s son, 14, according to ABC News, gets out of the van but thinks better of the idea as the cop pulls a Taser on him.

None of this would happened if the mother - who is clearly an idiot - had not taken off after first being pulled over. She would have gotten a ticket or a warning only.

What’s the outrage? The driver was agreed, an imbecile and didn’t it even occur to her that she had kid/s with her? A ticket is a ticket. Either argue your case with the cop or argue it in traffic court. But don’t effing’ drive away.
Really stupid of her to pull away when pulled over...she would have gotten a speeding ticket...
All that said...it unconscionable for the police to open fire on a moving van with children in it...
What in the hell type of training are these police getting ?
I don’t think they should have opened fire. That was not the way to go with kids in the vehicle. The officers should answer for that. They should lose their jobs and perhaps face prosecution.
As for the mother, SHE put her children in danger when she refused to cooperate with the officers on scene. What the hell woman? You’ve got your family in the car. You are putting your kids in danger.
If the officers are catching you having done something you don’t want to get caught for, you have to put that aside and bite the bullet. Your kids are at risk you idiot.
I hope they throw the book at her as well. The son was put in a very awkward situation. I wouldn’t go after him tooth and nail.
Not her fault. Obviously it was white-hispanic officers that were the cause of the whole altercation. Kind of like what happened with the angel tray-boy-eee martin except gz was just a wanna be cop. Tracked down and shot at without any sort of provocation. Almost looked like one of the “lyin’ king’s” sons getting out of the van. Didn’t look like NM plates either so they were an easy target for the NMSP.
The one thing that bothered me was the officer shooting at the vehicle as it was taking off, knowing there were children in the van.
On further reflection, the driver probably should not be allowed to drive a car on public streets. She acted very foolishly. This could have become a very ugly incident in a very short time.
Stupid mother. Stupider cops. They need to find another occupation.
She should have held out for the colonoscopy special.
It looks like just one of the cops opened fire, one of the guys who arrived for backup.
He should lose his job.
The mom should go to jail.
Yes, this does sound like a situation where both parties acted stupidly. The only reason to fire at a car with kids in it is to save someone or yourself’s life. Because a crazy driver is speeding away is no reason to fire at it.

Dude, there were kids in that van. There is no excuse for the cops opening fire.
While the mother was clearly wrong in taking off and resisting arrest, she should also be charged with endangering the children.
The cops? Have they not got helicopters in New Mexico? Or spike belts? Both would be far safer than shooting at children in a moving vehicle! Maybe there was a dog on board, which would explain much of the cop’s actions!

I didn’t say there was. But that mother is a threat to her own children because she’s incredibly stupid and irresponsible.
Preferably an occupation involving the question, "Do you want fries with that?"
