A shocking dashcam video shows the moment a New Mexico state trooper opened fire on a minivan with five children inside after a route traffic stop went horribly wrong. Now the New Mexico State Police have opened an investigation into the conduct of the troopers - and driver Rihanna Ferrell and her 14-year-old son are facing charges. The traffic stop took place south of Taos, New Mexico, on October 28 - but it has sparked local outrage after the video from a state police dashcam went public. SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO
Footage shows the officer casually walk up to the vehicle and begin speaking with the driver. When the officer walks away, presumably to run the license and registration and decide whether to write a ticket, the van takes off. A short chase ensues before the driver again relents and the van makes its way to the side of the road.
The officer at this point has had enough. He storms up to and opens the driver’s side door while ordering the driver out of the vehicle. She refuses and a struggle ensues as children inside the Ford can be heard screaming. The driver’s son, 14, according to ABC News, gets out of the van but thinks better of the idea as the cop pulls a Taser on him.

But I don’t know what was going on in the minds of these cops, who clearly are a public danger with any weapons in their possession, law enforcement officers or not. I was thinking that MAYBE, they would try to shoot out the tires of the van. At that distance, in that situation - really? Seriously?

I have no sympathy for the idiot black woman, but to fire multiple shots at a van full of children driving away on a public roadway with traffic is simply inexcusable.
This isn't a roadblock in Iraq, and US police need to stop acting like an occupying army.

Was the driver stupid? Yes. But that does not justify the jackboot’a actions!

Well she probably heard about those anal searches that the New Mexico cops were doing and wanted to keep them away from her children. Can't say I blame her.
After watching the video, it looked to me like the cops were doing fine, until that johnny come lately ran up and started firing into the car.
My computer is terrible, but if I saw it correctly, the shooter is the only one in trouble.

I totally agree. It was criminal, firing on a vehicle with children inside. Criminal!
They could easily just followed her and waited for her to stop down the rad. There was no reason to shoot at the car with children inside.
But I tell you, the police will back each other up on this. Just wait.

Agreed. I don't know what excuse the cop is going to come up with, but here's my guess as to what really happened.
When the driver sped away, the cop felt disrespected and a bit humiliated. The only appropriate response was to shoot at the car, and perhaps hit the driver, or a child, in the back of the head. That will teach the survivors a little respect!
Sometimes I think we would all be better off if cops are disarmed. In this case the cops might have thought there was a dog in the care with the kids.
The mom is too stupid to be a mom.
Other wise the problem was a poor mistreated black women who did nothing wrong except getting pulled over by the big bad police /S.
How dare they pull her over for some thing a mere traffic violation didn't they know she was black and needed a free pass./S
I believe that the police who fired on the vehicle may not have known there were other children inside. Alternatively, they may have been shooting low, at tires.
