Trace Adkins - You're Gonna Miss This

She was starin' out the window of their SUV
Complainin', sayin', I can't wait to turn eighteen
She said, I'll make my own money and I'll make my own rules
Momma, put the car in park out there in front of the school
And she kissed her head, and said, I was just like you

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In her one bedroom apartment and her daddy stops by
He tells her it's a nice place, she says, It'll do for now
Starts talkin' about babies and buyin' a house
Daddy shakes his head and says, Baby, just slow down

Cuz' you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber
Workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin' and one kid's screamin'
And she keeps apologizin'

He says, They don't bother me
I've got two babies of my own
One's thirty-six, one's twenty-three
Huh, it's hard to believe

But you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

You're gonna miss this
Yeah, you're gonna miss this

Teach Your Children - Crosby Stills & Nash

You, who are on the road must have a code that you can live by.
And so become yourself because the past is just a good bye.
Teach your children well, their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams, the one they fix, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

And you, of the tender years can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth, they seek the truth before they can die.
Teach your parents well, their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams, the one they fix,the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry, So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

This is what happens when an avaricious family sits around of the bed of a rich, dying relative. This is the full opera, which is one act, taking 57 minutes. I have this DVD, and it's a classic. Set aside an hour sometime for this.

My sister in law and I sang “Five foot two eyes of blue” to my granddaughter today who is just at that height. She now believes that we’re both nuts. LOL

Les Trois Cloches (The Three Bells)--Les Compagnons de la Chanson (1945)

The poignant and moving story of a man living in a community at the bottom of a valley in the Swiss Alps--"far from a highway, far from humanity." The song chronicles his birth, marriage and passing and concludes with a message of hope for the living.

This song may have been inspired by a news story from 1946 of a lunar rainbow seen by a passenger aboard a ship. In the song, a lunar rainbow inspires the singer to settle down with his lover and contribute to the Baby Boom.

Rainbow at Midnight--Texas Jim Robertson (1947)

That is a year before my Mama was born! LOL!

I use that song to teach the Circle of fifths and the concept of the “V” Chord resolving to the “I” Chord. (Double, triple, and quadruple dominant Chord resolutions). I am convinced that the original composer of this song constructed it as an elaborate musical joke that continues to amuse musicians to this very day.

Jazz was coming into its own in the 1920’s and musicians were enchanted with the new forms.

I LOVE this song for its sheer silliness, right down to the chord progression!
