U.S. Rep. Grace Meng was attacked and robbed while walking home after dinner in Washington D.C. last week.
If U.S. Rep. Grace Mengs (D-Queens) performance in a parody musical performed at Queens College over the weekend is any indication, she is definitely on the mend after being attacked and robbed in Washington D.C. last week.
Just days before Meng sang in the Legislative Acts performance including the spoof song, Theres No Business Like Small Business she had been struck in the back of the head. As she fell to the ground during the attack that happened as she was walking towards her Washington apartment after having dinner at a D.C. restaurant on the evening of Nov. 19, the perpetrator stole her handbag and then fled on foot.
While this was a frightening ordeal, I fortunately was not seriously injured, Meng said. Obviously things could have been much worse. I think the U.S. Capitol Police and the District of Columbia Police for responding quickly and professionally.
Meng, a freshman lawmaker who used to represent Flushing in the City Council, suffered a bruise on her chin and underwent a CAT scan at George Washington University Hospital.
While the congresswoman has said she is not sure that the incident was part of what is being called knockout crimes, during which perpetrators, often teens, will attempt to render a person unconscious with a single blow, Meng does consider it a possibility.
Its something thats going on around the country, and we need to send a strong message that this type of behavior is not funny, is not acceptable, and is criminal, Meng said in a television interview.
I encourage [the perpetrators] to view the people they are knocking down, she continued. Its not funny at all. These are human beings; these are your fellow Americans. These victims could easily be your family or friends.
While reports of the knockout crime have surfaced in cities across the country, including New York, police and other security experts are cautioning people to not grow hysterical over the trend, saying it is likely too early to tell whether this is real or an urban myth. While the attacks, of course, are very real, it has been argued that it may just be crime, and not teenagers or other individuals attempting to knock someone out as part of a violent game.
Media promoting new game
Ms Meng....it was just youts out having a bit of fun.
It’s not happening. It’s all our imagination. That’s the Pravda from the NYT nap and NPR.
Its something thats going on around the country, and we need to send a strong message that this type of behavior is not funny, is not acceptable, and is criminal, Meng said in a television interview.”
Anti gun commie liberal gets what she deserves from her party’s own base. Oh by the way it is funny when it
happens to a liberal democrat. I guess she is too stupid
to realize it’s her and her fellow travelers that are to
blame for this in many ways.
Suddenly, after a congresswoman is attacked, it goes from being a game to being a crime.
This is my shocked face.
I didn’t think that that knockout game involved robbery. I thought it was just suckerpunch and run.
“not grow hysterical over the trend, “
Translation. The mayor’s office tole me dat I hadda say dat cuz we no wanna get the sivil rites leeders all mad.
Well it is a game of suckerpunch and run, but the purse was just laying there, and she wasn’t objecting to anyone taking it, so???
Have you noticed that in “CCW” carrying states, there either few to none of these “knockout” crimes being committed.
?
When there’s a jazz “jam session” does everyone play their instruments the same as the other guy? It’s improvisation, hep cat!
Bingo! As long as they were just assaulting everyday crackers, Hasidic Jews and other non-entities, it was all in fun, but now, suddenly, it’s an epidemic.
She could become a conservative after being mugged liberal.
This is all a lie. Salon and the NYT tells me there’s no such game. I have chosen to ignore my lying eyes.
The “knockout game” only becomes “important” when a Dem congresswoman is the one attacked.
I would suggest the attack on the Asian woman was an ordinary common run of the mill hate crime
FReepers, here is what I sent my state level reps:
Gentlemen, on November 16, I sent you the following email:
Gentlemen, I would like to invite your attention to a story recently published by a Washington, D.C. CBS news outlet at http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/11/16/potentially-fatal-knockout-game-targeting-strangers-may-be-spreading-to-d-c/
This story details the spread of a new kind of assault on our citizens, called the Knock-Out Game. The object of the game is to punch an unsuspecting passerby and see if you can knock them unconscious with a single blow. This game originated in St. Louis and has spread to every major metro in the country, and will soon, I fear, be a part of the urban landscape in smaller cities as well.
What the author of this story fails to mention, as does every other mainstream media outlet, is that this game is played almost exclusively by gangs of African-American teens and the victims are always white, Asian or Hispanic. This game has resulted in several injuries and deaths across America.
I believe that the origins of this new black-on-white violence can be traced back to Attorney General Eric Holders public pronouncement that crimes committed by blacks would not be prosecuted with the same standard as crimes committed by whites. The story at http://www.examiner.com/article/attorney-general-eric-holder-refuses-to-apply-the-law-equally provides some useful background and documentation of Holders position.
It is quite clear to me that the young black communities believe they have a pass from the DOJ and possibly Obama himself to attack people of other races indiscriminately with little fear of consequences.
My question to you is this: what can we, in the Commonwealth, do from a legislative standpoint to pass hate crime laws and possibly RICO type laws that would guarantee stiff, mandatory minimum prison for the perpetrators and possibly revocation of state welfare and entitlement benefits to parents of these out-of-control youth?
If you feel the need to acquire more background on this rising tide of black-on-white violence, I suggest you get in touch with author Colin Flaherty, who has written a book on the subject that can be found at http://whitegirlbleedalot.com/.
I am looking forward to either a written response to my concern or a phone call.
I am writing to you once again and invite your attention this time to yet another article at http://www.afro.com/sections/news/afro_briefs/story.htm?storyid=80582. This story details legislative action that is beginning to take root at the federal, state and municipal levels all across the country. Of particular note in this latest story is the proposed legislation in New York state:
Farley joined Assemblyman Ted Tedisco in promoting the Knockout Game Deterrent Act, under which New York participants in Knockout Game assault cases could face over two decades in prison.
Gentlemen, I strongly encourage you and your colleagues in the Pa House and Senate to become legislatively engaged in this issue and generate additions to our Criminal Code that would include stiff, mandatory minimum prison sentences of twenty years without chance of parole and economic consequences in the form of eliminating all state-level entitlements for families of minors engaged in this game.
I continue to await your written response or a phone call.
