An Ohio high school is on lockdown amid a standoff with a student that has a gun, authorities say.

A Toledo Public Schools spokesman told the Toledo Blade that the student is contained inside a classroom alone at Scott High School.

Police said the gunman is 15 years old, the newspaper reported.

High school age students used to be able to take their guns to school and practice with them there if they had a range on campus. But that was in another America long ago.

MY freshman year of High School I took my 22 bolt action to school (with the bolt removed an in my pocket) as I was walking down the hall with it the Vice Principal saw me and asked to see the gun. He asked me what I was doing with it as he looked it over.

I told him I was taking it to metal shop to tap it for a scope. He then told me in a vary stern voice. Make sure you get the scope mounted far enough forward that you have some distance between your eye and the lens. He said its a first timers mistake to think they need the scope very close to the eye. He then asked me to bring it by his office after I got the scope on. And I did.

Can you imagine the response now to the same scenario?

LOL - the response today would be the principal would call the cops and someone on their keyboard would be tapping away that you should be shot. That said, this is a different time - and the kid might have been up to no good. Luckily police officers are trained to err on the side of safety - for all... including insane 14 year olds - if possible.
