According to the North Carolina state government website, Thursday was for Mandela, Saturday was for Pearl Harbor Day.
I was amused to find that two of my teenagers didn’t know who Mandela was. Their knowledge of South Africa includes the Zulu Wars, the diamond industry, wine, and my brother’s safari trip.

Dear leader gave the order. Not aware of any law that limits his discretion in that regard. Not that it would matter one iota: he has carte blanche, he knows it, and congress will do nothing about it.
Perhaps the flags are at half staff in memory of our freedom that is gone?

Our local post office must not have gotten their marching orders as when I went to the PO Saturday, the flag was at full staff.
