[Rep. Elijah] Cummings: Ted Cruz 'got an earful' from Dems on South Africa trip
The Baltimore Sun ^ | December 10, 2013 | John Fritze

Rep. Elijah E. Cummings is in South Africa for Nelson Mandela's memorial, but that doesn't mean he's abandoned domestic policy. In fact, Cummings said he and other Democrats in the official delegation have used the trip to debate with Sen. Ted Cruz on Obamacare.

"He got an earful from many of us -- I mean it was a very good conversation, nothing negative," the Baltimore Democrat said in an interview from Johannesburg. "I just reminded him that I'm concerned about the many people in my state and his state who have no health insurance."

Cruz -- a Texas Republican best known for his filibuster-like speech ahead of this year's government shutdown -- and Cummings are among about two dozens U.S. lawmakers in an official delegation paying tribute to Mandela. The former South African leader died on Thursday.

The journey gave lawmakers plenty of time to talk, Cummings said.

"It's clear to me he's running for president -- I don’t have any doubt about it," said Cummings who noted that Democratic Rep. John Lewis of Georgia and others also spoke with Cruz in what he described as a cordial debate. "I know he got an earful for 20 hours out and he's going to get another earful for 20 hours on the way back."(continued)

I can't decide if Senator Ted Cruz or Governor Sarah Palin is the "shadow president" that the Democrats and RINOs need to assault, vilify, debate, question and challenge. Or maybe one is the "shadow president" and the other is the "shadow vice president?" What do you think?

“I just reminded him that I’m concerned about the many people in my state and his state who have no health insurance”

That’s like the Menendez brothers crying about being orphans. Many of those who lack health insurance are in that position specifically BECAUSE of Obamacare.

So, Cruz "got an earful" for 20 hours. That means that the Lie-beral Democrats were shrieking for 20 hours and NOT LISTENING.

Typical lieberals: lecture, lecture, lecture...because, if you don't agree with them, why you must be ignorant, so they're going to "educate" you.

If you asked me....having Ted around with you for twenty-odd hours....probably pepped up on coffee and Mountain Dew...would probably cause me to lose all my Democratic inhibitions. I don’t think a mortal could sit and take that much wisdom, without having it to affect them.

Maybe this was Ted’s plan all along....to force a bunch of Democratic Congressmen to sit for twenty hours and preach on reality.

“I just reminded him that I’m concerned about the many people in my state and his state who have no health insurance.”

And just wait until people in his state can’t use the health insurance they think they are buying and have to pay for the doctor/hospital themselves (IF they can find a doctor to see them). A few of the highlights of Obamcare...high deductibles, can’t keep your doctor or hospital, if medication isn’t on approved list, you must pay out of pocket.

Wow. That’s class(not).
Obama doesn’t lecture that commie Castro but the Dems don’t give Sen Cruz that same respect.

Exactly correct. Just wait till they try and cash in on this “benefit” and find (HORRORS) they have to pay the deductible. If they can’t afford the premium with a subsidy, they surely can’t afford the $6k deductible (to be paid before services rendered - if I understand correctly).

Health insurance is useless without the health CARE.

That crap doesn’t work any more, a democrat being concerned...far too little too late. The truth is now very much out there:

Just watch this video for what Monica Crowley has to say about Obamacare:

http://vimeo.com/80242225

” Under Obama Care, I will die quickly.” Death Panels are here.

Ted Cruz is about to unload on Obama with both barrels. I am waiting to see how that will happen.

I don’t give a damn about people who have no health insurance outside of those losing it because of Obamacare. It’s not a “right” as the left continues to insist upon. Any insurance is a product that you buy because you want or need it and if you want or need it then work harder and earn it.

Yes, and thanks to obamacare, many still don't and many more will lose the coverage they had.

As a white person living in Elijah Cummings State I can tell you that he is certainly not worried about any whites living here. You see we are the ones who will be paying for the Health care for Baltimore, and PG County.

The people who keep sending trash like Elijah to Congress.

My advice to Ted Cruz is that if he has had his ear filled by Elijah Cummings, wash that ear good because it is full of fecal matter.

I, for one, find it refreshing that Ted Cruz was willing to step into this lions’ den of pity, iniquity and duplicitous Democrat pandering to debate these people and hold his ground. They are only giving him more personal insight into what he will be up against.

I certainly HOPE he is running for President, myself. As far as him being there and saying something respectable about Mandela, I don’t really care. If you want to criticize him for doing it, you can throw GW Bush in there, too.

Education

Cruz attended high school at Faith West Academy in Katy, Texas, and later graduated from Second Baptist High School in Houston as valedictorian in 1988. During high school, Cruz participated in a Houston-based group called the Free Market Education Foundation where Cruz learned about free-market economic philosophers such as Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, Frédéric Bastiat and Ludwig von Mises. The program was run by Rolland Storey and Cruz entered the program at the age of 13.

Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1992. While at Princeton, he competed for the American Whig-Cliosophic Society’s Debate Panel and won the top speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debating Championship. In 1992, he was named U.S. National Speaker of the Year and Team of the Year (with his debate partner, David Panton). Cruz was also a semi-finalist at the 1995 World Universities Debating Championship.

Cruz’s senior thesis on the separation of powers, titled “Clipping the Wings of Angels,” draws its inspiration from a passage attributed to President James Madison: “If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.” Cruz argued that the drafters of the Constitution intended to protect the rights of their constituents, and the last two items in the Bill of Rights offered an explicit stop against an all-powerful state. Cruz wrote: “They simply do so from different directions. The Tenth stops new powers, and the Ninth fortifies all other rights, or non-powers.”

After graduating from Princeton, Cruz attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1995 with a Juris Doctor. While at Harvard Law, Cruz was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review. Referring to Cruz’s time as a student at Harvard Law, Professor Alan Dershowitz said, “Cruz was off-the-charts brilliant.” At Harvard Law, Cruz was a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics.

Cruz currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the Texas Review of Law and Politics.

Thanks for the background. From Wiki, even....it seems that the Dem Trolls haven’t gotten around to making him out to be a child predator yet. They’ll keep trying, though.
