Democratic senator says Obamacare could have 'meltdown,' hurt party

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama's healthcare law could have a "meltdown" and make it difficult for his Democratic Party to keep control of the U.S. Senate next year if ongoing problems with the program are not resolved, a Democratic senator said on Sunday.

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who has urged delaying a penalty for people who do not enroll for health insurance in 2014 under the law, told CNN that a transitional year was needed for the complex healthcare program, commonly known as Obamacare, to work.

"If it's so much more expensive than what we anticipated and if the coverage is not as good as what we had, you've got a complete meltdown at that time," Manchin told CNN's "State of the Union" program.

"It falls of its own weight, if basically the cost becomes more than we can absorb, absolutely."

The White House has been scrambling for months to control the damage from the botched October 1 launch of the law, formally called the Affordable Care Act, which aimed at making sure that millions of Americans without health insurance are able to receive medical coverage.

Shortly we will see the start of a push to hype the “successes” of Ocare. Real, manufactured, or imagined.

Manchin is making sense here and that worries me. He’s not up for re-election until 2016. Maybe he’s the canary in the cave.

I'm not sure this reasoning works. If Obamacare has a meltdown, dems can run against it and the complicit insurance companies. Republicans are going to have to explain why they couldn't stop it and saying they voted against it isn't good enough. Only Ted Cruz's supporters for his 21 hours will be clear of blame.

I'd be okay with that scenerio. Republicans who didn't support Ted Cruz when Obamacare could've been defunded don't deserve to be re-elected.

My question - how fast can we hurry this melt-down on the part of the Current Occupant now squatting in the Oval Orfice?

And could it spread by contagion to Valerie Jarrett? Because she may not have the same pull with Joe Biden that she definitely has with The Won.

Joe Biden may turn out to be the Harry S Truman of our time.

In typical Democrat fashion, Senator Manchin shows no concern whatsoever in how ObamaCare has hurt ordinary people. Instead, he reveals that his only concern is how it affects the Democrats’ hold on power.

It couldn’t happen soon enough, Yup.. or to a better party.

Payback for years of socialist policies and an agenda that tramples the Constitution..

Priceless.

If it starts to look bad enough for the Democrats in the upcoming election, I would expect them to go to a friendly federal judge with a plan to postpone the election on the grounds that it will be impossible to conduct a “fair election” under the circumstances.

50-50 they’ll win right then and there.

Manchin knows he’s safe; WV may have said “NO” to Gore and Obama, but elsewhere it is still Democrat to the core.

Mac daddy will throw everyone under the bus before he will admit that was a huge lie that he made.

His entire life is all smoke and mirrors with no truth of anything.

All this was supported by the liberal media and the willing mindless dumb-o-drat sock puppets.

So this Manchin guy is more concerned with democrats keeping control of the senate than actually helping all the people hurt by Obama care? And how is simply delaying this train wreck another year going to help? The same problems remain one year from now. These @sshole politicians won’t admit it’s an unworkable law and deserves to die before it kills our economy.
