Exactly as I thought - Democrats will need a strong independent or libertarian to win an election for the next decade.

The RINOs would rather have radical Democrats elected, than support the winner and take control. Let’s face it, the Whigs have no desire to govern and if it is forced on them, will do everything they can to run away from it.

The elephant is dead, long live the tea blossom.

Don’t know why this fact keeps getting removed on the thread, but the fact is, this special election is going to fill the seat which is being vacated by the incoming Attorney General, so it’s an important election on January 21.

Right now, the Virginia Senate is split 20/20 Republican/Democrat, and the edge is important. The new Lt. Governor is a Dem, and he’s going to sit as the tie-breaker.

We need a GOP win in this seat. Unfortunately, thanks to the sore-loser Joe T. May, this is probably going to go to the Democrat, so bye bye, GOP control of the Virginia Senate.

I remember years ago when I got politcally involved after clinton’s gun ban. Trent Lott was so gung ho and I thought, “yea, this guy’s going to fight this back.” Then it came to the impeachment and how it seemed like a softball to knock out of the stadium. Trent Lott was on a Sunday morning show speaking so mealy-mouthed I thought WTF? I’ve come to believe it’s all a one party system. Pat Toomey is another example.

He was probably urged and/or bribed to run by the Dems. Anytime the Dems want to win, they put up a strawman as a third party candidate. Either they get someone to run as an Independent, or put up a faux to help seal their Dem victory. That’s not counting all the fraud and cheating they do. That’s how the governorship was lost in Virginia by Cucinelli.

The Pubs didn’t blow anything. They cannot control anyone who decides to run third party. Not possible.

It's a long road, but worth it.

As long as the Republicans keep running CINOs, it is not one whit worse for the public or for the cause of freedom when they lose.

They need sore loser laws like Texas does to keep this from happening.

Look what happened with Scozzafava in New York.

I posted a very similar thought about Trent Lott being a slug in a bad rug, and was attacked by another FReeper who said that Lott couldn't have gotten enough impeachment votes, and how he did the right thing, needed to focus on other agendas, etc.

I agree with you - Lott was a wimpy loser who came on strong and suddenly "grew in office", as liberals like to say of Republicans who become RINO's after election.

Democrats will stab you in the back and enjoy every minute of it. Republicans will stab you in the back, feel guilty about it, and tell you it was necessary to get them into the driver's seat so they can do things better.

we can work towards it…. I get sick of these politicians that are convinced that THEY are more important than the voters who put them there in the first place. We might be better off if we just picked names out of a hat and strict laws about lobbyists

The GOP did not go on the attack until the end of the election. That was the mistake.

It isn’t sore loser. May was to run in a primary, apparently. The “party” decided not to have a primary but to choose the nominee at a get-together. May said he would have won a vote by voters but not by party insiders.

So, he decided to go for a vote by voters as an independent. It’s a complicated mess. It does appear that he is a conservative businessman/engineer employing hundreds and having a couple dozen serious patents to his name.

As I read some of the background, it sounds like the gop-e might have undercut a conservative. I’m not certain about that yet.

Don’t get too upset about this, folks. The chances of conservatives picking up this seat were pretty slim to start with: it’s a solid ‘rat district.

The real contest is in tidewater in the 6th district that used to be ralph northam’s seat. It’s a more or less purple district. No spoiler in the race.
