>>There are so many men in my company (approx 2500 employees) with CCW permits that we got them to change the rules to allow us to keep firearms in our cars in the parking lot because we told the company that we were going to do it anyway. Company policy changed to a sort of “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy with regards to guns in the parking lot.<<

This has been my personal policy since my first tour in RVN. I bought a S&W Chiefs Special and for the past 47 years where I go, I go armed. I truly don’t care one iota what the laws are in reference to CCW because I am not going to register my weapons or abide by someone else’s determination of what I should do to protect my family.

Based on your excellent montage, 80% of spree killers could be by the following process:
1) Set up security cameras at all entrances to schools, theaters, universities, etc.
2) Screen digitized faces fed through software designed to screen for people whose eyes give away the fact that they are obvious homicidal maniacs.
3) Have law enforcement visit with all who meet the obvious maniac standard.
Viola.

(Only the Navy Yard shooter looks passably sane, if a little intense. Perhaps this is an old photo.)

Tooo costly.

Merely close all, schools, theaters, etc. and have folks learn and be entertained inside their alligator filled, moat protected castle.

Have food airdropped in and have a work at home job.

Problem solved.

That is a self- selected and very elite group. Few of them are idiots, and, as we know, the vast majority use their weapons responsibly.

The second point is empirically verifiable, but the first is only conjecture on your part. And it is a damaging assumption.

Some of the dumbest people I've ever met are avid hunters and competent gun handlers.

Indeed, among law abiding people, emotional stability would seem to be nearly inversely proportional to intelligence.

...a great many more people would have to be armed. Which would create unintended consequences, because that much larger number would include people who aren’t responsible. Many people aren’t.

If that were true, we should see at least a small statistical uptick of irresponsible CCW holders. The opposite is true.

You are trying to construct a "heads I win, tails you lose' rhetorical-hypothetical redoubt for you personal prejudices, and it aids no one but the hoplophobs.

But we’re not supposed to discuss such issues,...

Horse Hockey! The problem isn't discussing such issues: it's your front loading of premises by which the discussion will proceed.....

Your egg/mousetrap analogy is all wrong. Even inaccurate shots at an active shooter will be going one predominate direction and most wont continue bouncing after they strike an object...

Imagine someone walking into a theater and opening fire. 100 people return fire, some of them probably inaccurately.

Prior to the modern era, large numbers of people carried guns. They went to stage performances, circuses and so on. How many mass casualty events have been reported in shooting incidents? None that I have seen recorded.

How many incidents of someone opening fire on a crowd with semi-auto weapons are you aware of?

Look, I’m all in favor of more people going armed. Just trying to point out that there will inevitably be costs associated with doing so. Wise men count the likely costs of a policy before implementing it, they don’t pretend there will be no cost.

My point is that in shooting incidents, law-abiding armed individuals have typically either chosen to keep their heads down or opted to put the assailant down. There's been no en masse multi-party fratricidal shootout involving dozens of casualties inflicted by law-abiding gun owners on each other that I've heard of. And this is over the course of over a century of near-universal gun ownership.

And yet, modern society has conditioned people to be sheep, meekly waiting for government to take care of them. The peoples’ job is to report to the authorities and then wait. You see it in the UK moreso than here. People simply watch bad things happen and do nothing because they have not been taught that they personally have to act to create a better society.

Or we could adopt the Progressive solution - Right hemisphere implants which reduce all subjects to mindless drones.

These seem to sum up the choices.

In 1865 a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States.

In 1963 a radical left wing communist, Lee Harvey Oswald, shot and killed John F. Kennedy, President of the United States.

In 1975 a two wing radical Democrats fired shots at Gerald Ford, President of the United States in separate acts of mental illness.

In 1981 a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan.

In 1984 James Huberty a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 22 people in a McDonalds restaurant.

In 1986 Patrick Sherril a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office.

In 1990 James Pough a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office.

In 1991 George Hennard a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 23 people in a Lubys cafeteria.

In 1995 James Daniel Simpson a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory.

In 1999 Larry Asbrook a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 8 people at a church service.

In 2001 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at the White House in a failed attempt to kill George W. Bush, President of the US.

In 2003 Douglas Williams a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant.

In 2007 a registered Democrat named Seung - Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech .

March 2010: John Patrick Bedell shot two Pentagon security. A right-wing extremist, media asked? (A registered Democrat and 9/11 Truther.)

In 2011 a mentally ill, registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. The pot smoking Loughner killed 6 and wounded 18 in another liberal shooting tragedy.

In 2011 another mentally ill and registered Democrat named James Holmes went into a Colorado movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.
In 2012 Andrew Engeldinger a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis.

On 9/16/2013, another mentally ill liberal, Aaron Alexis, killed 12 innocents at the Navy Yard in Washington DC.

12/14/2013 Karl Pierson entered Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Co. armed with a shotgun with intent to kill one of his teachers. He shot Claire Davis, a senior, @Arapahoe High in the head. Yes, Pierson is/was another mentally ill liberal punk.

We could go on, but you get the point, even if the media and the anti gun pyschos in Congress do not.

Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats/the mentally ill having guns or being around them.

No NRA members, No Tea Party members, or No Republican conservatives are/were involved.

Political correctness and leftist policies are to blame in these mass shootings:

If Seung-Hui Cho had been institutionalized for mental illness, 32 people would still be alive at Virginia Tech.

If Jared Loughner had been institutionalized, 6 would be alive in Tucson.

If James Holmes had been institutionalized, 12 lives spared in Aurora, CO.

If Adam Lanza had been institutionalized, 26 would still live in Newtown, CT.

If Nidal Hasan had been properly reported, investigated, and discharged from the Army, and institutionalized, 13 would not have died at Ft. Hood.

If we really want to improve safety, keep criminals in jail, terrorists out of the U.S., and people who are mentally ill/deranged in institutions.

Again, It should be illegal for any Democrats to own guns or be around them.
