And I think you know the huffy attitude, too. “Their doctrine is polluted all to hell so they can’t possibly be saved Christians.” What is really funny is to see Calvinists doing it, not giving even the benefit of Calvinistic determinism. It happens ALL OVER. It is a very common squabble in Christendom. And to the actual Christ it is odious.
I trust the Pope on authentic Catholicism - he’s an expert. However, I would suggest that he talk with those in Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood, and other leading Islamic organizations before he jumps to conclusions on authentic Islam.

Let’s put it this way -— we disagree on the understanding of the term ex-cathedra. I understand it as IMPLICITLY referring to the Pope’s speaking about CATHOLIC morals and doctrine. Which is to say, when spoken in reference to the Pope, we KNOW what it means and what it refers to.
Regarding the doctrine of other religions, it goes without saying that he can’t speak for what other people believe.
So who is to be pitied? Those who criticize the Inquisition and the institution which practiced it or those who were tortured to death for speaking out against the error which you admit happened?
You were really on to something in your first post (but each post you have made since then makes me believe that you were totally unaware of the valid point you were making). Paul in Ephesians 6:12 makes it clear that spiritual warfare is with the institutions ("powers and principalities") not primarily with the people deceived ("flesh and blood") by the institutions. Most Muslims (excluding the hardcore jihadists) are not to be hated but pitied as those who are deceived - they are the ones who need the Gospel which Islam is trying to silence. Islam, the institution, is to be recognized and despised as the evil it represents. I have no doubt that there are good Muslim people in the world - at least, as good as one can be without the power of the Holy Spirit, however, it does not logically follow that Christians should be anything other than enemies of Islam.
I do, and occasionally demo it myself because I am a sinner. You just did it with the 'SOLA Fidelists' which prompted my response. I believe in their heart that they know God decides who is saved. The human in them might not be able to comprehend how in the midst of the polluted doctrine that it could be possible. And perhaps in their zeal for the Truth of God they overreact. We are supposed to be zealous for the Truth, God's Word is Truth.
And my remark isn’t supposed to be a prediction that they’re condemned to doom either. It’s more a caution that they should watch how they look. Pure sola fide’ism, actually lived out, would enable a radically trans-denominational acknowledgment of Christ. Being unable to understand how God can do a thing, and accepting that God can do it, is not mutually exclusive. The bible doesn’t require us to believe that entire church congregations are saved Christians either.

I've always had the thought that the USA is going to let the petroleum-rich nations dry themselves up selling their ONLY resource to us foreigners...and THEN we will knock ourselves out with despoiling our own resources.
We SURE aren't going to get out of our cars.
Once I did have a contretemps with a young Saudi punk.
I was going OUT of a store and he was coming IN. We both assumed that the other would step aside. I ASSUMED that he was a gentleman and he assumed...who knows. Neither of us would give way so we edged around each other, GLARING mightily at each other.
His parents, I know, would have been APPALLED at his behavior. He KNEW he should have given way but he was just a punk, an angry young punk.
The rest of the Saudi men treated me very well, those 30 Saudi men I worked with and the rest I had to deal with.
MOSTLY I saw that the men just want to get together, drink tea and talk about their 18-year-old sons who DON'T want to work or go to school... but just want to drive around in their cars.
The Saudi women MOSTLY just want to get together, drink tea and talk about their ungrateful children, obstinate in-laws and clothes/jewelry/babies, etc.
I tried very hard not to judge too much; that is for God to do. Both my husband and I thought that those five years were an adventure of a lifetime. My goodness, he made a TON of money from ARAMCO. We traveled ALL over the world...first class. My husband is gone now, but I can't forget our adventures.
My boss would have smiled, probably laughed, at being called an "executive." He knew he was unlettered. That is why he had to make his memory so good. He was not unusual.
He told me that all the workers had to walk home, back to their little settlements, not really towns yet, through the desert on the last day of the week (Wednesday for them) and they were paid in gold. I asked him if they had screens on their windows (knowing they had no A.C.) and he said "No, there were no windows in our tents."
He was SUCH a humble man. NONE of the men, from ANY country, who worked at ARAMCO ever wore suits, ties or jackets! They (the Saudis) all wore simple rather baggy pants and long-sleeved, collared shirts. Modesty for the men was just as important as modesty for the women.
The DRESS-UP for Saudi men was their long, white THOBE (dress), with a gutra, cloth wrapped around their head. Saudi men wore red and white checkered gutras (like an Italian tablecloth) for not-so-dressy and WHITE gutras for dress up.
Each Arab country had a different color. The Palestinians wore black and white checked gutras. I can't remember all of them--brown and white checked, green and white checked. That's all I recall. That cloth, gutra, around their head was to protect them from the hot, deseert sun and they had some interesting ways to wrap them. For the deep desert the gutra covered their face up over their nose and they made the top of the gutra push out to make kind of a bill to shade their eyes. They had all been goat and sheep herders.
These sheep were WEIRD. They had these big, long TRIANGULAR tails. Very odd. The goats were normal goats. They also ate camel, when necessary. They ate almost NOTHING green. Their well water was brackish and warm...YUCK!!
EVERY Aramco man bought the outfit, just because. I still have a photo of my husband in his "outfit"--with the red and white checkered gutra.
That is where the disparaging name of "raghead" for the Saudis came from.
True story:
One Thanksgiving I invited a Pakistani friend of ours to dinner. Hubby had to go to the Main Gate and sign him in. My husband had on a sports jacket and a tie...just for the occasion.
When he got out of his car to let in our Pakistani friends, ALL the Saudi gate guards, all soldiers, almost fell to the ground: A SUIT!!! Holy macerel!!!! A suit!!!! It was just a suit JACKET and tie, but they were ready to salute!! They thought my husband was a BIG SHOT, president of ARAMCO, of America, SOMETHING huge.
You simply do not understand that culture. My husband made the statement that LOGIC, as we know it, has NO place in the middle east. He was correct. When one understands that fact, one can deal with the life there.
99% of the Saudis could not read or write. The KSA is working on reversing that horrible statistic for their people. They KNOW that their future lies with their young, so their children WILL be literate. But for the old timers? It's too late.
The KSA is still trying to get all the Bedouin off the desert. Not an easy task to change the habits of so long a time.
How so? Doctrine still matters. Consider the ecla, they call themselves Lutheran but have abandoned it. What they reach and preach might sound good on a given day, but their doctrine marks them not only as not being Lutheran, but also non-Christian.
I remember our Heavenly Father telling us HOW to handle other religions,
