Muslim worshippers don’t just have more freedom to pray on the Temple Mount, a recent investigation reveals: they apparently also have permission to drill.
An investigation Monday by Yehuda Glick, Director of the Haliba organization for Jewish freedom on the Temple Mount, caught Waqf officials red-handed in the act of drilling through the ancient stones.
Vandalizing the Mount—Judaism’s holiest site and a national landmark for people of all religions—violates the law; when caught in the act on film, the perpetrators quickly tried to conceal their actions. …

Most likely to destroy any evidence of Jewish history, like they’ve been doing. But they probably don’t need explosives for that.
They only made it a holy site to upset the Jews. They couldn’t really care less about the place except as a point of contention.

Why on earth did Israel cede control of the Temple Mount to the Waqf? It’s time to take control and let the Palestinians declare another Intifada. Then, the IDF can crush these idiots.

Immediately after the Six Day War, Moshe Dyan ceded control of the Temple Mount to the Waqf to prevent the Israelis from building of a Third Temple on the site

No, not really. The Aqsa mosque -- which is the 3rd holiest site in Islam -- was built on the site of a ruined and abandoned Byzantine church, which was itself built on the site formerly occupied by the Royal Stoa, a secular building on the Temple Mount built by Herod. It was built adjacent to the Second Temple, not on top of it.
You're probably thinking of the other mosque on the Temple Mount, the Dome of the Rock, which WAS built on the Temple site between 689 and 691 AD. Although it should be noted that when the Arabs got to Jerusalem, the actual Temple site had already been desecrated by a temple to the Roman God Jupiter.
My point is that pretending the existence of Islamic holy sites on the Temple Mount is a modern ruse is silly. The site is important to Jews and Muslims and has been since long before the creation of the modern state of Israel.
