On Monday, Dr. Greg Brannon, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, handily won a key straw poll in the U.S. Senate primary at a candidate forum held in Guilford County, a county which has the third largest number of registered Republicans in the state.

The Senate candidate forum, hosted by Conservatives for Guilford County, was attended by nearly 300 interested voters and conservative activists who were eager to hear from the candidates.

With five candidates in the race for the Republican nomination, Brannon won more than two-thirds of the votes cast, beating his nearest challenger by a four to one margin.

The official results were as follows:

Brannon: 66.12%

Flynn: 15.59%

Harris: 12.36%

Grant: 4.84%

Tillis: 1.08%

"The results of last night's straw poll are very encouraging and are yet another example of the incredible grassroots support we're seeing all across the state. It's great to see our constitutional conservative message resonating with voters. North Carolinians are looking for a senator who will fight for our conservative values, defend the Constitution, and put an end to the progressive agenda in Washington," said Brannon.

In addition to the tremendous grassroots support Brannon is receiving, he's also been endorsed by many conservative leaders and organizations, including: Senator Rand Paul, RedState editor Erick Erickson, conservative author Ann Coulter, Congressman Thomas Massie, and National Association for Gun Rights PAC.

Dr. Greg Brannon is a Cary pro-life Obstetrician and conservative leader in North Carolina. A popular speaker for Tea Party groups the past few years, Dr. Brannon is the anti-establishment candidate running in opposition to the Big Government, big spending status quo in both political parties

I wonder whom all of the Republican voters in Guilford County who were not at the meeting will support?

If Tillis really is Rove’s guy, then this is great news indeed...

I've been donating to the Brannon campaign, and am determined NOT to sit on the sidelines anymore! Hagan must go, and by a Landslide! This is where we need to send a message, loud and clear, that

We're Mad as Hell, and not going to take it anymore!

Kay Hagan.

She won by 8.5 points in 08. Obama won NC by 0.5 points that year and lost in 12.

Is she really that popular?

No, she’s not popular at all. She had a fluke upset win over Elizabeth Dole in ‘08 because Dole ran a poor campaign for reelection.

Interesting.

Defeating a senate incumbent and running 8 points ahead of Obama (2008 Obama) seems like a real outlier on the plus side.

Given Obama’s loss there in 2012 and subsequent implosion of Obamacare, I’d say this is a strong potential pickup.
