House GOP writing 'principles' for immigration reform
LA Times ^ | January 8, 2014 | Lisa Mascaro and Brian Bennett

WASHINGTON — House speaker John A. Boehner told rank-and-file Republicans that his leadership team was drafting “principles” for overhauling immigration laws that will be presented in coming weeks.

Boehner made the remarks Wednesday during the first private meeting of House Republicans in the new year. House Republicans have struggled to respond to the Senate's immigration bill that passed in June, which would create a path to citizenship for 11 million immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally. Boehner refused to bring the Senate bill up for a vote in the House last year and instead said the House should consider a series of narrower measures.

"We are working on a standards or principles document," Boehner said, according to a person in the room granted anonymity to discuss the private session. The document is being drafted by Boehner, his leadership team, including House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), as well as other members interested in the issue.

House Republican leaders believe that the GOP needs to support an immigration overhaul to woo Latino voters in advance of the 2016 presidential election.

Is it just me, or is it a fact that if you have to “write” down “principles” for particular issues, then they cannot really be “principles”...

Principles are from the heart, they are non-negotiable, you should never expect anyone to compramise them either...

So why do these republican party leaders believe they can dictate “principles”???

This is truely an example of these elected officials being out of touch with reality...

It does not surprise me either who is behind this effort...

Anything to help the administration keep the failures of ObamaCare off the public radar...

11 months and counting...

"We are working on a standards or principles document," Boehner said

Does anyone besides me find that comment hysterically funny? Not what it means, mind you -- that's the death of the Republican Party and quite possibly the Republic as we know it -- but whoever knew that this idiot had standards or principles of any kind?

If they do this, they will lose their cush jobs. Illegals will not vote for them and neither will people like me.

The Chamber of Commerce wins, citizens lose.

If they keep winning elections, are they not in tune with the majority who show up for elections?

You’d think that such “position” papers would have been done already.

It is not a new subject.

Immigration reform is about greed.

Immigration reform is about money.

Immigration reform is about supply and demand.

Increase the supply of labor and demand falls, wages fall, your wages fall.

Ask yourself why the government CHOOSES to not enforce immigration law?

The political donor class and the employer class hold the reins of the government through how the political parties are funded. These are the people who are demanding the government ignore parts of immigration law.

Why?

Greed, plain and simple.

Increase the labor supply and the amount you have to pay people goes down, and you no longer need to treat them very well, because there are MILLIONS of hungry fearful people who will put up with it because the supply of jobs shrinks relative the number of people looking for work.

Thats a ‘win win’ for the employer class and the political donor class.

Once again the middle class is being squeezed for the benefit of the few, follow the money.

Any politician who pushes immigration reform without demanding the laws on the books be enforced is an enemy of your future, an enemy of your childs future.

Those politicians are doing the work of the employer class and the political donor class, society and culture be damned.

Dare to speak against them and you will be labeled ‘racist’ by the media, a media controlled by the employer class and the political donor class.

The government no longer is about public service, it is about the money.

When the government is free to select which laws to enforce, with the blessing of the courts your freedom vanishes.

And there is no one to vote for who could/would fix it, from either party.

We are so screwed.

From almost a year ago...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2990614/posts

Personally, I do not believe there are enough people, even here, that will remember ANY of this in 11 months...

Especially those voters in Ohio, Cantor-ville, Lindsey Graham-town...etc etc etc...

When folks from those districts, and other voters in republican capitulating districts (across the entire country) can admit they were fooled, and be committed to make the proper adjustments when the time comes, maybe we’ll survive as a nation...

Personally, I do not believe those people have the guts to remember, much less toss these schumps out on the street in November 2014...

I would love to be proven wrong...

But I am not going to waste my time holding my breath hoping for others to finally have that lightbulb go off above their heads...

I’m beginning to wonder if Boehner, in some of his many drunken binges, didn’t take some side trips down “the hershey highway” and become subject to blackmail. I don’t know how to otherwise explain his obsession with betraying us.

Stupid liars. If they had passed enforcement laws they could now do ‘reform’ and get away unscathed.
But they were afraid of losing their donors if they enforced immigration laws.
Now they’ll pass ‘reform’ and lose their voters, their majority, and their donors too.
