Ex-Republican runs as Dem for US Senate in Miss (this is how to win!!)

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Bill Marcy said Friday that he's changing party labels, but not his conservative beliefs, to run as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate in Mississippi this year.

The Vicksburg resident courted tea party voters when he ran as a Republican for the U.S. House in 2010 and 2012. Both times, he lost to Democratic incumbent Bennie Thompson.

Marcy, 67, said Friday that he filed qualifying papers for the Senate race Wednesday with the state Democratic Party. He's the first Democrat to enter the statewide race for a seat that has been held by Republican Thad Cochran for 35 years.

Cochran, 76, is seeking a seventh six-year term and faces a primary challenge from Chris McDaniel, 42, a state lawmaker with tea party backing.

Candidates' qualifying deadline is March 1, and party primaries are June 3.

In a phone interview with The Associated Press on Friday, Marcy described his candidacy as "Plan B," a way to give tea party members a voice in the Nov. 4 general election if McDaniel loses the Republican primary to Cochran.

Marcy, who is black, said he believes he'll be elected with support of black voters and tea party members — a coalition he concedes would be unusual in Mississippi politics. About 38 percent of Mississippi residents are black, and Marcy said many are socially conservative but don't like the Republican label.

“Carolyn McCarthy of NY”

Well, she’s announced that she’s stepping down, so who’s going to get her seat?

Old coch-roach paying this man to run to try to dissolve the Conservative vote... sorry... ain’t going to work. The blacks may vote for him but Chris McDaniel is going to win because he has established CONSERVATIVE credentials and he is trustworthy and he is NOT A FRIGGIN’ RAT! Anyone that would run as a RAT has sold his soul to satan and will not even get 30 pieces of silver.

BTW, I was thinking about a Mississippi ping... that is a cyber version of YEEE-HIII... isn’t it? ;-)

Socially conservative but many love socialism and they want more of the TWENTY TRILLION DOLLARS OF WELFARE BRIBES THAT HAVE BEEN PAID OUT TO THEM SINCE JOHNSON’S “GREAT SOCIETY” FAILURE WAS CREATED.

I would vote for Allen West in a heartbeat... but not because of the color of his skin and I believe that Allen would agree... his running has nothing to do with race. That man loves America and is brilliant. He is a true PATRIOT!

“Liebermann caucused with the Rs.”

Umm, better run a little fact check on this. Lieberman ran as an Independent his last term. But, even though the Democrat leadership refused to endorse him during the election process he remained under the Democrat umbrella after being reelected by declaring that he would caucus with them. That’s not to say that he didn’t stray off the reservation from time to time which he did - especially on defense issues. He was a hawk when it came to defending Israel for sure.

I’m not aware of any Democrat that declared to caucus with Republicans or vise versa. But, I’m no authority on this.

If he is Conservative, do you really think he would join the Marxist Democrat Party?

He's been promised something, by Thad or maybe even the Governor. Thad is 76!

All that I know is that if we elect Chris McDaniel, we will supply Ted Cruz and Mike Lee with a fellow warrior that will not mince words and will bare knuckle fight right next to them. He might even thump schmucky schumer upside the head! ;-)

I have read that one of the black Republican Alans (Allens) voted for the Pigford redistribution scam. This matters to me. Which one was it, do you know?

That’s not this guy’s platform.

Basically, you’re saying that it’s impossible to be a conservative Democrat.

Let’s see what he does if he wins.

Basically, you’re saying that it’s impossible to be a conservative Democrat.

As an elected official, it is impossible at the federal level.

Any "conservative democrat" will vote for a democrat to be speaker of the house, or senate majority leader. They will ensure democrats control the committees.

It's been over 30 years since we had a significant actual conservative wing among the dems. These days, people like Stupak are considered "conservative" democrats. I've even heard John Dingell called a conservative democrat over guns, and he was a "LBJ Great Society" guy who supports universal government health care.

I just looked it up, it was Allen West. He says he didn’t do his “due diligence”, but I consider this an awfully big mistake, if it so was, to put down to mere lack of due diligence. So could the passing of CommieCare, another redistributionist scheme, be passed off as a lack of “due diligence”, considering no one even claimed to have read it.
