I remember that February evening seeing the Beatles for the first time on Ed Sullivan.
They are STILL the #1 requested songwriters by my guitar (pre-teen)students, closely followed by the Stones, with occasional forays into Pink Floyd, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and the Doors.
But ALWAYS the Beatles.

FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAYThis was a combination of two different songs, one of which had been a hit two years before by The Rivingtons. For failing to credit them as composers , this band ended up in court. It came in at #7 this week. This has been a song recorded by many, to include the Ramones and Pee-Wee Herman.

Maddi was joy today. She and I did share a bowl of Cherrios with Banna Slices, (spoon full for me, then a little spoon full for her.) All she wanted to do was sit in Gr-Pa’s lap and hug.

FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAYDale Houston and Grace Broussard were a country duo who hailed from Mississippi and Louisiana, and had only two hits before going their separate ways. This came in at #39 on its way down after four months on the charts.

Good evening, Maestro!
You've moved me to tears! That song by Sammy Davis, Jr. was a great favorite of mine fifty years ago this week, when I was a 16 year old Junior at Taipei American School in the Republic of China. A vastly different world then!

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAYThe Chicago Sound had a few fine practitioners in the mid-Sixties, and this guy, whose song came in at #31, was of the better ones. This was produced by Curtis Mayfield. Major Lance was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel Lance later.

It was quite warm today...mid 60s. Supposed to be the same for the next few days at least. Pretty breezy so it kicked up some of our famous sand. Ugh. A preview of a West Texas spring. :)
