Polar Vortex II Set To Strike US This Week
Sky News ^ | 1/13/14

America is set to be hit by another blast from the polar vortex - although temperatures are likely to be higher than last week's extreme conditions.

The polar plunge is expected to move south from Canada, bringing colder air and sub-zero temperatures to the US this week.

Forecasters say it will sweep over the lower Mississippi Valley and Midwest on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then hit the East on Thursday.

The main thrust of the cold air will follow up a couple of days later.

It was +60 degrees here in Kansas City yesterday. I think it was some reverse polar inversion which I’m sure is being blamed on carbon life forms. The East Coast was told not to put their winter gear away just yet, but I’m sure it’s all right for us being it’s already January 13th.

What ever. Time to dial down the hand-waving and drama.

It’s January, and they call these things COLD SPELLS.

How did the grandchildren of the Depression/WW2 generation become such wusses?

Everything is the fault of global warming. Hot weather is blamed on it. Very cold weather is also blamed on it. We’re not supposed to question the reasoning of our liberal overlords who spew forth pronouncements on the subject.

Not too long ago, we in New England had a thing called WINTER. Every now and then the weather people cautioned us to dress warmly because of a recurring event called the “Coming of the MONTREAL EXPRESS”.
OK, we dressed warmly, gassed up the car, and managed to live through it. I remember once, as a kid and the temperature, but without a wind, dropped to -29F in the middle of Massachusetts.
With GLOBULL Warming, there is no longer a Montreal Express. Now we suffer from the POLAR VORTEX. Oh the humanity.

It does appear there’s a correlation between the professional football season and the cold. Notice how we never have cold during the baseball season. Perhaps a movement to play baseball year round would help to avoid sleet and snow.

In Texas we called them Blue Northers.

Polar Vortex sounds so much scarier.

I need to get my 4x4 fixed. 2X is getting dangerous with all the snow brought on by this feakish seasonal climate change.

(Eye roll here)

In the Midwest, we called it the Alberta Clipper. What’s the big deal with these wusses?

Reporters eating up the “Polar Vortex” terminology uncritically.

reminds me of the time Tim Flannery (utility player for the Padres) told a reporter that the gloves made today were nowhere near as good as the gloves of years past because the hole in the ozone layer was making the feed cows eat irradiated, causing their leather to be much thinner.

The reporter just nodded “yes!” and wrote the story of the interview.

Flannery was a hoot and enjoyed making stuff up to reporters. :)
