When the 2014 Academy Awards nominees were announced early Thursday, all ears were attuned to the expected names. Jared Leto, Lupita Nyongo, Cate Blanchett, Matthew McConaughey and Bruce Dern given nods in their respective categories? Check.
Gravity, American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave dominating nominations for acting, writing, directing and best picture? No big surprises there, and all as it should be.
Then, you cry. No nomination for Robert Redford for his astonishing one-man show in the gripping seafaring thriller All Is Lost? Outrage! No Tom Hanks, who delivered such a subtle tour de force in Captain Phillips? The nerve! No Oprah Winfrey or Forest Whitaker for their superb performances in Lee Daniels The Butler? Robbed, I tell you, robbed!. . .

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oprah_Winfrey:
In October 1998, Winfrey produced and starred in the film Beloved, based on Toni Morrison's Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name. To prepare for her role as Sethe, the protagonist and former slave, Winfrey experienced a 24-hour simulation of the experience of slavery, which included being tied up and blindfolded and left alone in the woods. Despite major advertising, including two episodes of her talk show dedicated solely to the film, and moderate to good critical reviews, Beloved opened to poor box-office results, losing approximately $30 million.
Gadzooks! Since Beloved losing money was before The Obamanation got elected... is it or is it not racism in this New World PC Order?

I have a friend who has a copy of the first film McConaughey ever made (DAZED AND CONFUSED). He and Ben Affleck signed it. It’s more than likely McConaughey’s first autograph since he signed it in 1992 way before he got anywhere near fame. Affleck had done a few things before but this is basically his first movie, too.
So, if McConaughey wins the Oscar, the script will have the autographs of two Oscar winners, both signed when they were just getting started.
My friend is thinking about putting it on ebay. First of all, should he wait until the Oscars to see if McConaughey wins? And, how much do you guys think he can get for it. A dealer offered him $1,100 a few years back.
He also has the sun glasses the “coach” wore in the film that he would include in the deal.
24 hours as a “simulated” slave?? ROTFLMMFAO!
Did they also roll her fat arse on flour to locate the wet spot?
These awards are just given to get LoFoVos out there to watch the movies that didn’t make enough money when it was at the box office or that we are supposed to watch for a particular propagandistic message (or both. Usually both.)
Perhaps “The Butler” doesn’t need this becuz perhaps the school districts all around America are being forced to include the movie into the new common core curriculum...
Big butted bimbo beauty. And she can sing.
They’ve designated “12 Years a Slave” as the PC winner.
These actors make me laugh. They’re always talking about what they did to “get into character” blah, blah, blah. That’s what I liked about Jason Robards. He said “All you have to do is show up on time, know your lines and hit your mark.”
So should that communist runt Redford.......
It’s nothing more than a high school popularity contest, and it appears that oprah ain’t that popular. She’ll have to take comfort in her billions.
I have seen none of the best-picture-nominated movies, a first for me.
You mean Queen Latifa?
I believe I misspelled that.
I believe I misspelled that.
I thought it was "Queen Laqueefa"
