A new poll shows that the wealthy and politically well-connected favor the sharp immigration increases that are included in pending House and Senate bills.
The immigration increases are opposed by the majority of lower-income and middle-income voters, and by political moderates and conservatives, according to the new Rasmussen poll of 1,000 likely voters. A plurality of African-Americans oppose the increases.
The idea of importing millions of additional people to compete with American workers in the middle class is politically absurd, said Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies. Voters arent stupid and they understand what the [immigration] proposals are designed to do, he told The Daily Caller.
The stark class divide on immigration was highlighted by Rasmussen as House leaders, including Speaker John Boehner and Rep. Paul Ryan, prepare to push GOP legislators to back a package of far-reaching immigration bills.
Theyll use the Jan. 29-31 retreat in Cambridge, Md., to tout bills that would dramatically boost foreign competition for the blue-collar jobs sought by American voters, teenagers, graduates and unemployed.
In June, the Senate passed a bill that would triple the inflow of legal immigrants over the next decade.
The opposition to the bill is being led by reform groups, such as tea party groups, NumbersUSA and the Madison Project.
We will not grow the party and win back Reagan Democrats by pushing the agenda of the corporate interests, said Daniel Horowitz, policy director at the Madison Project. Republican business interests are asking for a de facto maximum wage mandate with an unnatural and constant flow of cheap foreign labor.

And if the GOP cuts a deal with Dems on amnesty you can bet that Obama will get the credit and the GOP will be characterized as just wanting cheap labor for business, confirming the Dems 2012 top 1% themes..
“..favor the sharp immigration increases ..” because they hate the US and want to maintain millions of US citizens unemployed to drag down the American way of life.
Soon there won’t be any more Somali Muslims left in Somalia as our insane central socialist government brings them all over here to suck up any resources leftover by the scum of Mexican society.
America is nothing more than a giant magnet that attracts all the undesirable elements of foreign societies. Unfortunately for American citizens their evil central socialist government has caused most of our manufacturing base to beat it out of town.
Oh, America still produces some candy, but Hershey has moved their manufacturing to Mexico making Hershey, Pennsylvania just a quaint place to visit. I am old enough to remember when each city of any size had a shoe factory and we manufactured our own clothing. At the end of WWII 2/3 of the world’s autos were manufactured in America and our steel mills, now rusting hulks, were the producers for a world market.
The entire fault lies with that evil central government and with the complicit Congress!
So every single person out there who is unemployed or underemployed - this is the liberal agenda. Oh, don't like the idea of a few million more people competing for your job? ... Welcome to the conservative movement. We want jobs for American citizens, not more immigrants.
Many liberals are wealthy themselves. The phony, hypocritical “limousine and Learjet” liberals. People like Kerry, Edwards, Gore, on and on and on.
Of course once the Democrats import a permanent majority, they can raise the minimum wage to $22 an hour, and there goes that cheap labor. The Chamber of Commerce screw themselves just like the insurance companies did signing onto Obamacare.
That is exactly Dems plan on amnesty, I am with you 100% on that.
Chamber of Commerce also wants SS and Medicare min age raised to ~ 70, but mainly for far future retirees not current ones to try to avoid an election backlash (similar to Ryan scam). Libs see this as off the table completely.
That's a pretty unstable set of goals they have, but my guess has always been that they think delayed the new Americans voting will keep that from happening till they are retired.
The obvious liberal agenda = plenty of gardeners, housemaids and nannies.
They don't care - thanks to the welfare state industrial complex, every additional immigrant is also a consumer with First World purchasing power. This is why Rick Perry had significant support from a grocery store operator and a construction magnate - to the tune of tens of millions of dollars in his PAC.
OK by me to let willing workers in, if we get to send an equal number of ghetto babymamas and sperm donors, plus methhead trailer trash to their countries of origin!
They elected Obama. Twice.
We need to dig deeper to determine just exactly what their motives are in pushing immigration reform, not merely assume that we know why different groups are pushing for it.
America needs JOBS.
Not immigration. JOBS.
Bring back America jobs.
Stop selling out, GOP. American jobs are needed now. For Americans.
Liberal/GOP establishment maybe.
Progressives (like most of those on MSNBC) are looking for more troops to motivate into voting and protesting against greedy employers who have the nerve to hire them without a living wage, free heath care, paid sick leave, endless unemployment comp,
all stuff that if they have to pay by legal mandate defeats the whole purpose of having them as workers.
BTW : that laundry list of demands on employers is what Maria Schriver is pushing now, she is trying to rally poor single Momsto protest and vote demanding that all those be put into law as employer mandates.
So its not a abstract list.
Yep, Maria Schiver is rallying them to demand it.
Poll: Liberals can’t find cheap house keepers.
Cheap help for their home, elderly parents, and gardens. Liberal elites would sell out their country to save money on ‘help’... Jerkwads.
