The Pentagon has approved a new policy that will allow troops to seek waivers to wear religious clothing, seek prayer time or engage in religious practices. Defense officials say the waivers will be decided on a case-by-case basis and will depend on where the service member is stationed and whether the change would affect military readiness or the mission.

The beard and turban are typical of Sikhs not Muslims. Sikhism is a monotheistic religion centered in northern India. Adherent males wear turbans and beards and carry a symbolic dagger. They have a long warrior tradition especially in the Indian and British military.

On the same note, the few Sikhs have been wearing their turbans for decades in the US military with no harm no foul (they are Patriots to our military and the US).
That said, I believe ALL military (enlisted or officer) should wear the same uniform, including enlisted female sailors wearing the traditional dixie cups when in dress uniform. Women want to be the same as men in the military, then let them wear the exact same uniform, along with the same haircut. Yeah, I'm hard core...sue me.

The last I heard a person can still wear a crucifix. And yes, they can talk about Jesus without being hassled, except in some areas of the world, which as a grunt you probably don't want to do. Think target.

You are mixing apples and oranges. Sikh's are a different religion and strongly against Muslims. Do some research.
