Made in China: all Modern Chinese fighter jets in one photo

One image shows some of the most famous China’s Air Force combat planes.

Even if some types are missing, the photograph is still much interesting. Indeed, if you wondered how the size of a J-10 compared to that of a J-8II, this photographs gives a hint.

BTW, since the Chinese site where the image was posted focuses on scale models, photoshop compositions etc., we can’t be sure the image whether the photo is genuine or it simply depicts a diorama.

Anyway, from left to right you can ID: Shenyang J-11, Chengdu J-10, Shenyang J-8II, Shenyang J-8, Chengdu J-7, Shenyang J-6, Shenyang JJ-2. Front row: Xian JH-7A, Nanchang A5.

If you are interested in Chinese aircraft, Modern Chinese Warplanes written by Andreas Rupprecht and Tom Cooper, and published by Harpia, is the book for you.

The paperback volume, sporting 256 pages, 274 color photos, 12 maps and 60 color drawings, accurately portrays China’s current military planes, their weapons, their markings and serial number systems, as well as the order of battle of both the People’s Liberation Army Air Force and Navy Air Force: the ideal starting point if you want to study Beijing’s air power.

Best way to scare a Chinese pilot is to remind him that his aircraft is made from all Chinese parts.

Can you spot the Us and Euro influences/copies?

F-15. F-16, French Mirage, F-4, F106 (delta) or Mirage?

Russian planes were direct imports.

But .. they are getting better. And they have more smart people than we do - if they ever do gain workmanship and technology other than Carter and Clinton and Obama selling them ours directly.

It’s supposed to be concrete not tarmac and I completely agree with you that this is a model.

Made in China ....

With the money we send there when we buy Chinese made goods over American made goods.

Most of those don’t look much more modern than US planes from 40 years ago.

The Russians didn’t have a good source of titanium, so they had to develop their steel metallurgy to a very advanced level; this meant they had heavier planes, which meant bigger engines and shorter range. They built a lot of planes in order to improve their chance at air superiority in case of war in Europe, where aircraft range wasn’t that much of an issue anyway.

The Russian hardware was destroyed on the ground in the Six Day War in 1967; it didn’t fare much better in the 1973 war, when the bulk of Israel’s aircraft losses were due to SAMs. Russian pilots flew sorties in Egyptian planes to show the hapless Egyptians how it was done, and most of them got blown out of the air. And Israel didn’t have our best stuff. During the Syrian occupation of Lebanon, the USSR had some of its most advanced fighters in Syria; they got cute, overflew some Israeli positions in Lebanon, and the IAF response resulted in the destruction of a couple of the MiGs, which never saw the attack coming. The rest of the MiGs turned tail.

The Chinese are in worse shape because they are literally 12000 miles from most US territory, and are just now getting around to building an aircraft carrier. It’s worth noting that the Chinese air force hasn’t been in combat anywhere since the Korean War, and their new fighters are not likely to be without problems which would emerge in combat.

The likely targets of Chinese air power are local to the Orient; Taiwan, South (and North) Korea, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines.
