Gun-rights activists believe they will see the pendulum swing back in their direction this year.
President Obama and his gun-control buddies were successful in pushing through new restrictions on the Second Amendment in eight states last year.
But now, South Carolina has bucked the trend and moved to strengthen the right to bear arms.
Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to soon sign a bill, which passed the General Assembly on Thursday, that allows for concealed carry in bars and restaurants. Gun owners will still have to have a legal permit and not drink alcohol.
This is the first gun-related state legislation to be sent to a governor this year.
Doug Mayer, the governor’s spokesman, said that she “will sign any bill that doesn’t restrict the rights of guns owners.”
South Carolina was one of only two states — the other being Louisiana — that outright banned guns in places that served alcohol.
And, of course, the District of Columbia does not recognize any carry rights outside the home.

That’s essentially the same rule as TX so I’m not seeing how that’s “not much bar or restaurant carry.” It’s auditable by the state alcoholic beverage control people. Bottom line, no worries if you’re headed out to Chili’s or Outback or Red Lobster or etc.
Can’t find out when she is signing it and when it takes effect, anybody know?

My take: Another idiotic, unConstitutional restriction on our God-given right to carry. Can Mr Patterson (running for Lt Gov here, and the author of the original concealed-carry law here in Texas) please tell me the difference between carrying in an establishment that makes only 50% of its sales from alcohol and one that makes 51%? (I didn’t think so.)
They allowed guns — open carry, no less! — in bars on “Gunsmoke.” It is the American way. ;-)

I mean, c’mon, if a troublemaker walked into the Long Branch Saloon a-fixin’ to slap leather, wouldn’t he plan on bein’ as stone cold sober as a judge, with all his gunfightin’ skills at their highest stage of tune and thus his chances of victory also at their highest? He probably would-a practiced his draw that mornin’ outside of town, before moseyin’ on in.

Armed citizens can really ruin a criminals digestion. In 1964, Richmond, CA, my older brother & his business partner were having dinner in a restaurant after work.
A robber entered, and showed a weapon to the cashier; bro & partner both retrieved handguns: one from their cash box, and one concealed under a jacket. They were joined by 3 or 4 other ARMED businessmen also eating, in confronting & detaining the robber.
CC was not exactly legal, but the laws of the time allowed open carry, and the arriving cops only saw openly carried weapons and never questioned where/how they had been carried earlier. The weapon my brother used had been a gift from the police department for his help in a sting operation.

Most gunfights did not happen as depicted on the fantasy of the television or movie western.
There are some people who are scary good with guns when drunk, at least one western gunfighter, Ben Thompson, got into virtually all his gunfights when drunk, and was incredibly effective. He killed at least seven men that were recorded. Four of those were pretty nearly straight out murders, all of them after the war between the states.
