Approving Keystone XL could be the biggest mistake of Obama's presidency
The Guardian ^ | January 31, 2014 | Michael Mann

Posted on 02/02/2014 6:33:34 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

A State Department report fails to take into account the full climate impacts of Keystone XL. Who is Obama protecting?

I have made my position on the Keystone XL pipeline quite clear. Approving this hotly debated pipeline would send America down the wrong path. The science tells us now is the time that we should be throwing everything we have into creating a clean 21st century energy economy, not doubling down on the dirty energy that is imperiling our planet.

Now that the State Department has just released a final environmental impact report on Keystone XL, which appears to downplay the threat, and greatly increases the odds that the Obama administration will approve the project, I feel I must weigh in once again.

The simple fact is this: if Keystone XL is built, it will be easier to exploit fossil fuel reserves large enough to drastically destabilize the climate. A direct pipeline to refineries and global markets makes the business of polluting the atmosphere that much cheaper and easier.

The only truly accurate examination of the pipeline would include a full cost accounting its environmental footprint. It needs to take into account how much energy is consumed in refining and transporting the crude from oil sands. It must acknowledge that the pipeline would lower the cost and raise the convenience of extracting and exporting the incredibly carbon-intensive deposits of oil.

There are two main issues at stake in the Keystone XL decision: path dependency and US leadership. Path dependency is the term use to describe the fact that once a policy is put into place, it then constrains future options to those within that policy framework. More simply, the choices we make now determine what choices we get to make in the future....

This hockey stick maker has as much credibility as his buddy Al Gore. Canada is going to pump this oil out of the ground no matter what America does with the pipeline. This enviro-activist would rather see it shipped overseas to China or shipped on the railways of America. I wonder how much the house of saud contributes to his hockey stick making business?

Someone needs to give the Earth Worshipers their own nation or even region like the EU where they can exist and suffer the consequences of their bad choices and policies.

We have several problems to address and these idiots have no functional or practical answers. They only have junk science based demands. Their answer to the internal combustion engine is battery powered cars. Despite the fact the biggest cheerleaders of these cars are also in states where the power grid is breaking down due to age, overload, and enviromental non expansion policies they still think electricity comes from the earth fairy.

You try to reason with them with logic but you can't. They don't understand logic nor do the possess common sense. We have three main power sources for electrical power production. The first was hydroelectric. Many dams are aging built as early as the 1930's and designed for 50-75 years. Hydroelectric systems floods vast acres of land but do provide several other benefits off setting this including recreation/tourism and public utility water. They aren't cost efficent as such and account for a low percentage of all power generated.

Next is Coal Fired Steam Plants. They have been a steady reliable work horse and up to the last decade or so of outrageous EPA overreach a cheaper way to produce power. The Green Moonbats want them all gone. No discussion, no reasoning, no acceptable practical economical replacement even in the works except for nuclear reactor steam turbine power generation. You really see the Green Moonbats scream, bloody murder over that. Every Green Moonbat is an expert on nuclear power.

Our nations economy needs this pipeline. Almost everything we consume, 99% of the good we buy are hauled by trucks. That will not change. Not even a rail system upgrade can change that stone cold fact.

Their answer is their inefficient favorites such as solar and wind power generation. Not reliable, non storable for commercial applications, and they create more issues environmentally than they solve.

You want to see cheaper prices on goods especially food? LOWER THE COST OF DIESEL FUEL BY RAISING AVIABILITY & PRODUCTION. The ones running for office who's platform is the defunding and even better the closing down of the EPA will get my vote.

. . . it can sometimes still be better than this Administration’s kept domestic press.

As the saying goes, even Pravda criticized the Politboro once in a while. Not our lapdog media.

And is this hockey stick Mann saying this?

I think this may be the guy who is trying to take advantage of having those who expose bad science shusshed because he is suing a couple of them. It doesn't make the science better, and it doesn't change the fact that the crude will be going down a pipeline to somewhere--whether that be America where pollution is regulated, or the far East where is isn't so much regulated.

The fallacy that not producing CO2 in North America somehow carries more weight than not producing CO2 somewhere else, flies in the face of the allegation that CO2 is the problem in a global system. If CO2 was the problem, (or if it was a problem), then the production of CO2 anywhere on the planet would be considered a problem, regardless of the industrial or economic status of the nation involved.

Why isn't Michael Mann in jail?

Using tax dollars to fudge the data and spread lies. All the while funding a plush lifestyle where he need not produce squat...
Leaches are more honorable and trustworthy than this guy.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

>> He’s an ideologue.

I’m hoping Mark Steyn will find that fact (and Mann’s hyperbolic article) useful in his defense against Mann’s lawsuit.

Any wonder how this freaky fanatic got the global warming “research” results he was after? He is an ideologue not an unbiased researcher. He is always taxpayer supported if you trace who actually pays his salary and for his alleged research through the years

This buffoon invented the infamous hockey stick

OK it's time to make some quick easy money off of the Enviro-Fools. I have an idea I want to have funding for Research and Development for. I want to build a Perpetual Motion electrical generator. After the initial starting torque it should be able to power itself and it's flywheel be harnessed to drive industrial uses. I'm sure it can be done all I need is the money to research it.

Yea I know better. But it's as reasonable and possible as meeting their demands. LMAO
