Sandra Fluke Agrees: Limbaugh Did Her a ‘Favor’ by Giving Her Exposure
Mediaite ^ | 02/07/2014 | by Matt Wilstein

Posted on 02/07/2014 8:22:48 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Sandra Fluke first gained national attention when Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” on his radio show. During an appearance on MSNBC’s The Ed Show Thursday to discuss her bid for the California State Senate, Fluke agreed with Ed Schultz that Limbaugh may have actually done her a “favor” by bringing her that extra exposure.

As a Georgetown University law student in 2012, Fluke was initially barred from testifying on contraception to an all-male Congressional panel by its Republican members before ultimately testifying to Democrats on the issue. She argued her school should have to include contraception in its health care coverage despite any moral objections it may have.

Following Fluke’s testimony, Limbaugh called her a “slut” and a “prostitute” on his radio show, adding, “If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.” He later apologized to Fluke for his “insulting word choices.”

“I think Limbaugh did you a favor by putting you out there like that and I hope you understand where I’m going on that,” Schultz told Fluke today. “I mean exposure is very important, people now look to you in a big, big way for leadership on some very pertinent issues.”

“I agree with you that exposure is important,” Fluke said in response, “because it lets us shine a light on important issues we need to be talking about.”

On the issue of a congressional run, which had previously discussed, versus the State Senate campaign she settled on, Fluke said she just wanted to go where she think can affect the most “progressive change.”

Why would she need more exposure? Even before she made the news, Fluke was getting exposure to dozens of guys a day (extrapolating from her claimed birth control costs).

No one will say it I will, Rush has stepped into it more than once, i.e. Ms Fluke. NAFTA IMHO was his biggest flub, agreeing with Al Gore on that one 20 years hence I hate to say Perot was right, as well as Pat Buchanan’s most recent editorial on how the GOP has lost the Reagan Democrats post the Bush Clan....

May have done her a favor?

Your teenaged kids or teen grandchildren are accompanying you as you shop in the Health Products department of your local store. Another teen or young adult gal who your kids know (say, through an older sibling) to be pretty promiscuous, is also there, and she complains about the price of condoms, says she thinks they should be free. One of the teens in your charge chides her for it and calls her a "slut" in the hearing of everyone there.

Do you praise that kid for "speaking truth to power," or do you give that brat a good dressing-down for behaving in a way that is rude and purely destructive? Do you say, "Way to go, son! That girl is a SLUT, a WHORE! You're right! She is so wrong to complain about the price of birth control!" Or do you say, "Son, I agree with you that she's wrong in what she says, but you had better figure out a smarter, more civil way to say the same thing because the way you're doing it now is totally wrong for a REASON. Insulting a person's dignity, as opposed to disputing a person's opinion, WILL BACKFIRE every time you do something like that because insulting a person's dignity is WHAT BAD PEOPLE DO."

This is backfiring on Rush and the rest of America because Rush ABANDONED any idea of behaving like a decent Christian when he called Fluke a "slut," AND THIS IS THE PRICE.

Way to go, Rush.

Rush calls ‘em like he sees ‘em.I don't have a problem with that.

If I remember correctly Fluke expected her insurance through a Catholic institution to pay for her birth control for her out of wedlock sex. She broadcast her wishes to the entire world. What a slut!

He did do her a favor, and he shot the conservative movement in the foot and robbed us of the moral high ground.

Rush commented on Fluke's speech without having heard her speech. He picked up a news summary from a conservative blog and riffed on it. Rush even named the blog.

Near the beginning of her talk, Fluke said she wasn't going to talk about her own life, but the stories of other women, and that's what she did.

She told four ridiculous stories and one that, if true, was a insurance medical need issue, not a contractive need issue.

Fluke never spoke about her own sex life.

You can read Fluke's speech here.

I stated something incorrect in my first post to you. Fluke never specifically said she wasn't going to talk about her own life. What she said was:
"When I look around my campus, I see the faces of the women affected, and I have heard more and more of their stories. . On a daily basis, I hear from yet another woman from Georgetown or other schools or who works for a religiously affiliated employer who has suffered financial, emotional, and medical burdens because of this lack of contraceptive coverage. And so, I am here to share their voices and I thank you for allowing them to be heard."

Then she proceeded to tell specific stories about other women.

The only personal thing Fluke said was that she made $3,000 a summer while working on a public interest internship.

She broadcast her wishes to the entire world. What a slut!

On the other hand, had she kept her mouth shut -- what then? Or what if her opinion was that government should get out of the contraception biz altogether? Would she still be a slut, and would Rush or anyone else be causing anything but strife for saying she was a "slut" loudly and clearly for expressing either opinion, her being a loose promiscuous woman and all? Or should "slut" only be reserved for promiscuous women who are on the LEFT?

The kinds of people who pronounce others to be "sluts" are lazy, angry, bitter, short-sighted, and could use some serious reflection on what Jesus teaches in the Bible. The kinds of people who pronounce others to be "sluts" as an argument against said "slut's" opinion, need a swift kick in the ass. Apparently, fate agrees with me because THIS, Fluke's running for California Senate with helpful name-recognition via Rush, IS Rush's "swift kick in the ass." Those who defend Rush on this are NINNIES.

Hey -- I'm just calling 'em like I see 'em.

Almost all of the stories Fluke told were ridiculous and should have been attack on their merits. For example, Fluke said:

"One student told us that she knew birth control wasn’t covered, and she assumed that’s how Georgetown’s insurance handled all of women’s sexual healthcare, so when she was raped, she didn’t go to the doctor even to be examined or tested for sexually transmitted infections because she thought insurance wasn’t going to cover something like that, something that was related to a woman’s reproductive health."

Her friend's problem wasn't that her insurance didn't cover contraceptives; her friend's problem was that she was stupid. Contraceptives don't cure stupidity.

Rush should have attacked Fluke on the actual, ridiculous arguments she made for mandatory contraceptive converage.

Males can be every bit as much a slut as the female... and obviously if Fluke was wanting her contraceptive costs covered she was not messing with another woman.

Keep telling yourself what you want to hear. It's false, but keep telling yourself that Fluke wasn't made instantly famous among liberals who'd otherwise never heard of her, when she became the Democrat woman Rush Limbaugh called a "slut" on national radio.

You have the same problem Rush does: inability to admit error.

I don’t begrudge Rush Limbaugh his income, as good conservatives shouldn’t. That’s coveting, in my book. So what if he makes good money at what he’s doing? It is a good measure of success, and it’s a shame you can’t appreciate that because you’re jealous of his income.

His primary interest is indeed entertaining, it’s not making us “feel good about ourselves.” That’s what liberals do.

she is doing the same for our side by reminding everybody she requires $9,000 per year from you and me to keep her in condoms

It was clear she was talking about oral contraceptives, and she said:

Without insurance coverage, contraception can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school.

It was typical liberal histrionics.

"Can" cost, meaning at the very extreme, the most expensive brand of oral contraceptives, at the most expensive source.

"During law school", meaning over a period of approximately 32 months.

That's approximately $94.00 per month for the most expensive oral contraceptive at the most expensive source As a liberal, always use the outlier when quoting cost to be born by the 'disadvantaged.'.

It's the way liberals talk. $3,000 sounds a lot worse than $94.

However, Fluke never said how much her contraception cost.

If Rush's intent is to weaken entitlement liberalism and loose morality, it IS backfiring because of liberals who will "crawl over broken glass" to vote for the woman Rush Limbaugh called a "slut."

If Rush's intent is to get attention, then his addiction to oxycontin (or whatever it's called) was "good" and "constructive" on a par with his declaration that Fluke was a "slut."

Same thing with any politician, left or right, who states that an obese person is a "fat hedonist." An obese person is surely that by definition, as much as a promiscuous woman is a "slut" by definition.

Whether it's $5 or $10,000 the dollar amount is irrelevant and completely misses the point. Why should anyone other than the user be burdened with the cost of recreational use of contraceptives? It's not my responsibility to ensure your ability to have sex without consequences. As far as I know, no one has ever died from abstaining from sex.

I believe that was the point Rush was making. Those of us who really listened to the entire conversation instead of hearing it second-hand after distorted by the media know that.

I've mentioned that repeatedly on other threads.

I've also mentioned why she wasn't allowed to testify before the Committee.

The Democrats were to provide one witness to testify before the full Oversight and Government Reform Committee, per standard procedure. The Democrats named Rev. Barry Lynn, head of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, as their witness.

There is a House rule that a witness must be named three days in advance so that the other party may vet him or her and do research on his or her background and expertise.

At 4:30 p.m. on the day before the hearing (some sources say 4:45 p.m.), the Democrats announced the substitution of Sandra Fluke for Rev. Lynn. The Republican said no. It violated the three-day rule and didn't give Republicans enough time to research Ms. Fluke. She wasn't allowed to testify and for good reason.

That's what you WANT to hear. You WANT Rush to be let off the hook for indulging anger and bad manners.

Publicly calling anyone a "slut" is the territory of proud, vain clods, whether they hail from the political right, middle, or left.

There are consequences for such crappy behavior, and Fluke running for office with the extra fame and "credibility" (to the left, anyway) that Rush has given her, are a case in point.

Same thing with any politician, left or right, who states that an obese person is a "fat hedonist." An obese person is surely that by definition, as much as a promiscuous woman is a "slut" by definition.

A promiscuous woman can certainly be called a "slut," and the word accurately describes her. An obese person can certainly be called a "fat hedonist," and the term accurately describes that person.

But how smart would it be for you, me, a medical doctor, or ANYONE ELSE to use the term "fat hedonist" to describe an obese person with whom they have a dispute of opinion? About as smart as a political figure like Rush calling a promiscuous woman in the opposing political party a "slut."

Sorry, I don't respond to something I haven't read. Your example was so incongruent with the actual events that it was obvious you never heard the original spark of the controversy.

Please advise if this is not true.

You are naive to believe that if Rush hadn't used the term slut - and not directly but by asking a question - that nobody would have paid attention to Fluke. Why on earth do you think the Dems held this bogus, unofficial hearing in the first place? They were going to use it to full effect. If your suggestion is that Rush should have ignored the testimony altogether in order to not make Fluke more important you may have a point. But it's what he does - and very well. You seem to think he should have a different purpose in life that conforms to your requirements.

BTW, let us all know when you reach a 20 million plus audience for your opinions so that we can take your career advice to Rush a little more seriously.

I've mentioned that repeatedly on other threads.

I figured you had, you are usually very meticulous that way...

She wasn't allowed to testify and for good reason.

Correct again. The Rats attempted to foist her upon the committee at the last minute. It's a pity, really, because separated from the chaff, a major flaw could have been pointed out had she testified *under oath.*.

Her statement was about a "friend of a friend" of hers who had some condition, which was supposedly something that could have been treated with birth control pills. The story line was her friend of a friend could not get them because Georgetown would not provide them, but that was the reddest of red herrings because they would have if the prescribing Doctor simply diagnosed her with the condition. Georgetown's problem with the medication involved was with people wanting it for birth control purposes, but would have popped for the pills if it was to treat the medical condition described.

I think her story was a lie from start to finish, and unfortunately those facts never came out. So....I figure I might as well poke fun at her for wanting government to supply $9000 worth of condoms because everything else was a lie anyway. Sometimes I'm bad that way.

Blame Craig Bannister for starting this ball to roll.

Just before Rush went off on Fluke, he announced that he had this cnsnew.com article:
