With less than four months until the primary election for US Senate in Mississippi, the political season is now in full swing. And like clockwork, the long-anticipated attacks against Senator Chris McDaniel by allies of the Thad Cochran camp have begun in earnest, and sadly, in dishonestly, if not downright hilarity.
Finding themselves in what must be an increasingly desperate situation, Senator Cochran and his well-funded surrogates and friends have initiated a campaign of low blows. This operation of deceit is nothing more than the establishment of the Republican Party, both on the national and state level, rallying around a weakened leader in a desperate attempt to make him look good by tearing down his opponent.
To carry out their campaign of trickery, they have formed a new Super PAC, which has the backing of Haley Barbour, and is deceptively named Mississippi Conservatives. But don’t be fooled, there’s nothing conservative about it. In a recently released negative television ad, Senator McDaniel’s record in the state senate, as well as his reputation, is falsified, twisted, and distorted, to use the most family-oriented language possible, for to truly evaluate its worth would require much harsher, un-Christian words.
The ad itself, entitled “Who is Chris McDaniel? Whoever he needs to be,” attempts to paint Senator McDaniel as a flip-flopper and is based on three issues: tort reform, federal involvement in public education, and deficit spending. Three issues, mind you, in which Senator Cochran has zero credibility for any reform efforts, unlike Senator McDaniel.

We are on to them—this time. THIS primary season, be VERY careful when dealing with an organization that only CLAIMS to be ‘conservative’.
There’s a LOT of deceit going around—AGAIN.

I think Thad has every right to run again. He may just make it. It is new that he has become the villain. The only one I want out NOW is Lindsey Graham who hopefully won’t be suckered by the South Carolina voters again.
I'm hearing radio ads about "conservative" immigration reform. I'd bet dollars to doughnut holes that the Chamber of Crony Fascists is paying for them.

Of course Cochran has the right to run again. He does not have a right to a seat in the senate, however. These people after a while think themselves to be aristocrats, that the government and the country literally cannot do without them.
They believe that they should be able to keep the seat until THEY decide to leave it, or until they are taken out by a democrat. That is the natural order of things to them and the only two possible options.
The idea that the people might want to be represented by another REPUBLICAN is abhorrent to them, and they fight like hell to destroy any opponent.

Yeah, right up there with Heather Wilson, Pete Hoekstra, Denny Rehberg, Tommy Thompson, and Rick Berg.
Lugar was a democrat lite. It’s better to have an open enemy than a traitorous friend.
Mourdock failed because he tripped over the abortion issue. Conservatives need to have a well thought out scripted answer to the abortion question that they do not deviate from. That will defuse that issue.
We lost two races that year to the abortion issue because our guys tried to answer without being scripted.
(The problem is that anything and everything or guys say will be twisted to be used against them, so we have to script something that can not easily be twisted and use the same script across the country. For example: “The federal government has no authority to regulate a medical procedure. This should be handled at the state level. Next question.”
We’d still have some states where baby murder is ‘legal’ but we can deal with them later with a right to life ammendment. But to get that we need to get firm control of the senate.)
Thad is an aristocrat only because MS voters are too uninformned to understand the overreaching of aristocrats.
Thad is in serious trouble. These attacks on McDaniel have been clownish. Clearly the Mississippi Establishment have gotten rusty over the years, unchallenged.

I've only lived in this state for going on 9 years now, but at least Mississippi voters elect Republicans, unlike those "oh so damn smart" voters up North and out on the West Coast, where conservatives are out numbered.

I don't think that's the answer. Consider this:
Cochran has brought millions -- probably billions -- of dollars in congressional "pork" to his home state. He ranks right up there with the late Ted Stevens on that score. I doubt that he's ever voted against one of those infamous "pork laden" appropriations bills.
Therefore, Cochran gets very poor marks from national organizations like the Club for Growth and various tea party groups that focus almost entirely economic and fiscal issues.
On the other hand, his pro-life and pro-gun voting records are very solid, if not always 100% perfect. So he ranks well with national groups that deal mostly or entirely with the social-conservative issues.
IMO, what it comes down to is that, like it or not, Cochran's "pork" menu has made him popular with the local officials and businessmen who love federal infrastructure grants, while his "social conservative" menu has kept him in the good graces of the state's voting majority, the white evangelicals.
So now, the open question is whether a relatively unknown politico like Chris McDaniel can somehow come up with a winning formula for 2014. I doubt it, but at least the race will be interesting to watch.
Still, whether or not he stands a chance, I'd say McDaniel is smart to make the effort, because the publicity he gets in 2014 could make him a viable candidate for a statewide office in the 2015 state elections, or for a Congressional seat in 2016.
(And in the meantime, Chris's law practice should boom thanks to all the free publicity he's getting from the Club for Growth, Heritage Action et al. Running for public office has long been an accepted and successful means of advertising by Mississippi lawyers.)
When I read stuff like this, I remind myself that it is the informed voters who vote in the Primary.
If Graham is the only RINO you want out now, you are a large part of our problem.
And, just how was Lindsey Graham suckered by the South Carolina voters?
