More than 200 years after Alexander Hamilton’s death, an online coupon company has given the Founding Father a historic promotion.
Deal website Groupon launched a Presidents Day tie-in of $10 off when customers purchase a $40 coupon for a local business.
The problem is, the promotion honors President Alexander Hamilton -- who was never president of the United States.
According to MyFoxNY.com, the promo calls Hamilton "undeniably one of our greatest presidents and most widely recognized for establishing the country's financial system."
Hamilton, the nation's first secretary of the Treasury, was killed by Vice President Aaron Burr in a pistol duel.

I’m pretty sure that the ‘grandfather clause’ on presidential eligibility, Article 2, Section 5, made him eligible.
Gotta be some kind of marketing ploy. They can’t be that stupid.

My Favorite President is Andrew Jackson because Chuck Heston played him twice in movies.
I thought I had read that he fired off - as was often the case in duels, but that Burr did not, which is why many even on his side were upset at him....gotta go dig.
As his forces walked home from the Battle of New Orleans he noticed that the officers were riding their horses and the wounded men were walking. He directed the officers to put the wounded men on the horses and he dismounted and put a wounded man on his horse. As they walked on a soldier approached Jackson and offered a walking stick to assist his travels. I’m sure you can guess what type of tree the walking stick was from. That and the fact that he was hard as hickory made sure that the name stuck.

Stewart, in his biography of Burr, American Emperor, notes that the reports of Hamilton’s intentionally missing Burr with his shot only began to appear in newspaper reports published in papers friendly to Hamilton in the days after his death. However Ron Chernow, in his biography, “Alexander Hamilton”, states Hamilton told numerous friends of his intention to avoid firing at Burr well before the duel.[13] Additionally, according to Chernow, Hamilton wrote a number of letters dated before the duel that also attest to this intention. The two shots, witnesses reported, followed one another in close succession, and none of those witnesses could agree as to who fired first.”

Here I want to note a historical puzzle. It is frequently said that the "natural born Citizen" requirement was inserted in the text of the Constitution to prevent Alexander Hamilton---who was born in the West Indies---from becoming President. Some scholars note that this account is probably not true, but when they do so, they still tend to assume that Hamilton was not eligible to be President. For example, GW Law Prof Jonathan Turley says on his blog: "It is clear that the Framers considered natural born to refer to a birth on U.S. soil. Indeed, Alexander Hamilton was viewed as ineligible due to his birth in the West Indies."
Turley may well be right that Hamilton's contemporaries thought Hamilton ineligible for the Presidency. Reputable historians have said as much. But if so, Hamilton's contemporaries were surely wrong. It's true that Hamilton wasn't a "natural born Citizen," but the Constitution says that to become President one must be EITHER a "natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution . . . ." (boldface added). The boldface language was included because, at the time of the adoption of the Constitution, nobody who was old enough to be President had been born a citizen of the United States, there not having been a United States until July 4, 1776.
Jackson was a Bad Ass. Some guy took a shot at him and the guns failed to fire. Jackson took to beating him with his walking stick until he was pulled off.

I believe Jefferson and Adams referred to Hamilton as “that foreign bastard,” due to his having been born in Nevis and not in one of the American colonies.
