Poll: 71% of Obama voters, 55% Democrats 'regret' voting for his re-election

Over seven in 10 Obama voters, and 55 percent of Democrats, regret voting for President Obama's reelection in 2012, according to a new Economist/YouGov.com poll.

Conducted to test the media hype about a comeback by 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, the new poll found voters still uninspired by Romney, but also deeply dissatisfied with Obama who has so far failed to capitalize on his victory over 15 months ago.

The poll asked those who voted for Obama's reelection a simple question: “Do you regret voting for Barack Obama?”

— Overall, 71 percent said yes, 26 percent no.

— 80 percent of whites said yes, 61 percent of blacks said no and 100 percent of Hispanics said yes.

— 84 percent of women said yes, and just 61 percent of men agreed.

— 55 percent of Democrats said yes, as did 71 percent of independents.

Still, given the choice of Obama versus Romney, Obama supporters said they would stick with their guy, 79 percent to 10 percent for Romney.

But his voters seem to have moved on and are ready for the next election, giving Obama very early lame duck status before the midterm elections. The poll, for example, found that Hillary Clinton has a higher favorability rating than the president. While Obama is underwater in his ratings, Clinton is buoyed by a 50-percent favorable to 43-percent unfavorable rating, with a sizable 28 percent rating her “very favorable.”

Whatever possessed anyone to vote for him is beyond me.

"Possessed" being the operative term.

Anyone who voted once, and not twice should say to themselves, the first vote is really what counted. What can one do to make up for this profound act of nativity, Kids and Schools. Get active and begin reversing the damage that has been done. That is the only hope.

I’m a software developer, the syntax check didn’t turn up an error so I went with it.

I agree with you.

However he was an improvement over Mccain.

Shows how out of touch the GOP is. Not called the stupid party for nothing.

Sure would like to know to what they attribute their change of heart. Obamacare, possibly?

Anyone who honestly regrets voting for this clown needs to lose their right to vote. He did not hide the fact that he is a Socialist. He promised America the moon and that the “rich” would pay for it. If Americans are stupid enough to believe that, we are doomed.

These are exactly the sort of people who don’t vote in off-year elections. The republicans should sweep this election cycle, but they are so incompetent at fielding good candidates that they will likely only have a moderately successful election. My prediction is that the repubs will gain a few seats in the House and a few in the Senate. In the Senate, I think it will end up 51-49 democrats. The republicans are too retarded to exploit this perfect opportunity.

I bet a lot of Democrats who are dissatisfied with Obama wish he were more liberal.

I simply can’t believe this poll.

It was plain as day, clear as a bell, what/who Obama was in ‘08. It was mind blowingly clear and apparent what/who he was in ‘12. I don’t believe there are just a whole lot of people out there who thought his first term was great but who then have been disappointed by his second term so far. Also, 100% in a poll is a sign of trouble.

Put that poll together with a couple of bucks and you can buy coffee.

Exactly. And, if he chooses to run for a third term, he’ll get the same votes running against whatever candidate the republicans prop up.

This is a case of morons hoping to have it both ways; voting in the creep, then bemoaning the choice. Just like Hollywood celebrities in 1996 who claimed they would vote to re-elect clinton, but do so holding their noses. Big deal.

Mitt was never my favorite candidate. But he must have been a REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD candidate to be faring so poorly in this poll against an incompetent stiff.

Maybe the Left has just succeeded in getting America to hate rich people.

Bingo. They expected him to deliver Socialist Nirvana. What he actually delivered was the sequester and a fusterclucked website.

I think the answer is in the last paragraph. 79% said they’d do it again with the choice of Romney

He was not well liked. He lost to Obama.

He was terrible

And the GOP Establishment did everything they could, including cheating and changing the rules mid-process, to put in the one man that could lose to Obama.

If the GOPe was secretly controlled by the same men that control Obama and the Democrats would they act any differently than they do now?

and 100 percent of Hispanics said yes

That's less impressive than it sounds.

Question 3 of the poll asks of those who voted for Obama in 2012, "If the election was held again, would you still vote for Barack Obama?" The yes/no/not sure percentages broke down 64/16/20 for the 30 Hispanic respondents. Apparently, the numerical breakdown was 19/5/6.

Question 4 then asks of those who voted for Obama in 2012 but would vote for someone else today, "Do you regret voting for Barack Obama?" And, surprise! All four of the respondents said yes! The fifth guy must have changed his mind.

The total "Still vote for Obama" (Q3) came out 79/10/11 for 396 respondents, whereas the corresponding question for Romney (Q5) came out 90/3/7 for 363 respondents. Mittens wins that one, but not by the margin he should!
