Kansas candidate posted grisly images (Milton Wolf)
Politico ^ | 2/23/14 | JAMES HOHMANN

Posted on 02/23/2014 10:55:48 AM PST by Second Amendment First

A Kansas radiologist running for Senate posted grisly X-rays of patients who had been shot on his Facebook page and engaged in joking online banter about the images.

Milton Wolf, challenging Sen. Pat Roberts in a Republican primary, acknowledged Sunday that he posted “insensitive” comments online, which he described as “mistakes.”

a devastating story in the Topeka Capital-Journal, which reported that he wrote that a patient could not complain about the awkward way his head was positioned for an X-ray, published on Facebook, because he was dead. He said a man decapitated by gunfire resembled an alien in the movie “Terminator.” And he posted another image of a man who had been shot in the temple.

Wolf accused Roberts of “character assassination” in a 424-word statement.

“To those I have offended, I am truly sorry and I ask for your forgiveness,” he said.

Accompanying the newspaper’s story is an eight-minute video of a testy interview with the candidate. Wolf notes that he has authored medical textbooks and argues that it is okay to post images as long as names are redacted, something the paper quotes medical ethics professionals disputing.

The reporter asks, “Do you still post images of dead people on the Internet?”

“I’m not going to play these kind of gotcha games with you,” Wolf responded.

Wolf has the backing of conservative outside groups such as the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Madison Project.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee, which supports incumbents, quickly attacked what it described as “freakish behavior.” Officials faulted the outside groups, who often antagonize the establishment, for failing to properly vet primary challengers before offering endorsements.

“Wolf is now embroiled in serious ethical and legal questions and challenges, effectively destroying any small hope that he had for a serious campaign,” said NRSC spokesman Brad Dayspring.

The tea party challenger, who often notes that he is a distant cousin of President Barack Obama, said he removed the old posts years ago.

“Senator Pat Roberts wants to attack me as a doctor rather than giving Kansans a reason to vote for him,” Wolf said. “It’s sad.”

Especially if it helps to avoid making serious mistakes.

so, does this make him more of an idiot or a jerk?

Oooh, that's a hard one. I'm going to go with jerk since he did this before he even thought of running for senate. If he'd done it after the decision then he'd be an idiot.

Not a “mistake.” A colossal breakdown of common sense.

You echo what I've been trying along to say about Wolf but many of my FR "friends" have taken that to mean that I am not conservative, a RINO, a sellout to GOPe, and then worse.

I gave defending myself last week after a couple of vicious attacks (that and suffering a severe case of Bronchitis) knowing that research into Wolf will bring out more than this.

We all should know far more about a candidate before signing on board.

I fear some credible national conservative Wolf backers will wish they had known more about the guy before staking their considerable reputations on him!

Based upon Wolf's Facebook posts, he's not ready for prime time. It shows incredible recklessness for someone who is seeking high political office.

No one can give Wolf any kind of rating as he's never been a candidate, never been elected, never votes up or down on conservative/liberal issues and more importantly, never supported a conservative for office, at least never in the State of Kansas. In fact, research into Wolf will show, he's not long been a registered voter of any political party and rarely voted.

The ACU no longer qualifies as a conservative group in my opinion.

Based in that, it sounds like the ACU might be more conservative than Wolf. In any case, I’m not a Kansas voter, but if I were I would think twice, probably three times, about voting for Wolf.

What gets me is that a lot of these people are from states that have Senators that are way to the left of Roberts and want us to throw him away for a total unknown. Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

I used to attend their some of annual conventions in the 1990s but after witnessing some smarmy activities on the part of their then leadership as well as encouraging non-traditional conservative supporters to be engaged I their group, I decided they were far more into raising money than to adhering to conservative principles, and to end my association with them.

Amen to that friend.

As I said, I gave up attempting to defend my stance on Wolf, which had less to do with Roberts than refusing to climb in bed with Wolf.

I already knew that at least one of Wolf's complaints against Roberts is that he doesn't actually Iive in the home he owns in KS, that applied across the board to any GOP candidate of more than two terms, I fear we will now vote out lots of people with which we politically agree.

The problem some conservative candidates will have is they love free speech and exercise it fluently.

Too bad so many conservatives will criticize, chastise, scorn, dump them like trash, and bow to political correctness.

We’ve seen liberal dems do and say so much worse, and they get praise for their courage.

Check your facts before you post, please.
Roberts congratulated Cruz on the floor of the Senate for his “filibuster”.

We, in Virginia, have sadly had our share of ‘macaca’ moments. In this age of liberal media oppression, only leftists are allowed a sense of humor or a momentary lapse of judgment. Any conservative challenger had better know this and run a flawless campaign.

This is ALL they need.

Let's hear what Mark Levin has to say now.

I’m a Kansas voter...and I have to admit, I have been excited by the Wolf candidacy.

My biggest complaint about Roberts was his lack of criticism of Sebelius, when she came up for HHS confirmation.

But he usually votes the right way. One of my favorite Pat Roberts moment was when he was on a local radio station, and he made a comment that some weird sound ‘sounded like Howard Dean after he skipped his rabies shot’. I can’t believe no national news outlet picked up on that comment.

Will I vote for Wolf now? No. I was considering sending him money, but not now. He’s a doctor who sees this gore every day, and has obviously been de-sensitized to it. I don’t fault him for that. But, posting this stuff on facebook and finding humor in it...something’s wrong there. Personally, if I were to die of a bullet to the head, I have an expectation that the scan of my exploded skull won’t get posted on Facebook to be ‘liked’ and for people to crack jokes over. I understand that if a doctor has a very unique case or situation, he would want to share this with other doctors - but certainly not on Facebook.

In total agreement. We really have to vet someone more than he agrees with the tea party. Politics is not for the timid or the stupid.
I will catch hell but we have to overcome our tendency to piss our pants if the guy is in the military. We have had our share of a holes who somehow were in the military. Glad you served etc. but politics is a totally different kettle of fish. McLame comes to mind. How about Kerry?
We have to grow up and critically look at any candidate we decide to endorse.

I can't vote for any of the parties in question, but Todd Akin 3.0 is what I and everyone in the country thinks of when a Tea Party candidate screws up like this.

The Tea Party can't endorse these clods just because they proclaim their conservatism and are on the same side of issues as Mark Levin.

When I said there would be "opposition research" that might bring out things against a total unknown, and I was referring not only to Democrats but liberals and their pals in the media

The most likely source for this information is the Roberts camp. Politics is a nasty business and incumbents are at the top of nasty mountain. Roberts has eliminated his opposition and must believe that it's all smooth sailing from here on in. I hope that he is wrong. Someone needs to stand up against him and the entitled politicians that he represents. Unfortunately this will act as a warning to anyone thinking of challenging Roberts.

I could care less about Wolf, but the people of Kansas ought to have a Senator responsive to the conservative voters represent the majority. That person is not Pat Roberts.
