WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, a Tea Party favorite seen as a potential 2016 presidential contender, on Thursday put Democrat Hillary Clinton's chances of winning the White House at 40 percent.
"The media thinks she is unstoppable, but they also thought she was unstoppable in the 2008 Democratic primary," which Barack Obama won en route to the White House, Cruz said of the former secretary of state and wife of two-term U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Cruz, who spoke at a Politico Playbook Breakfast, was pressed by moderator Mike Allen on whether he planned to run for the presidency.
"It's premature," the Texas Republican said.
But Cruz said Republicans would stand a better chance of capturing the White House if they put forward a conservative, rather than moderate, candidate.
"Let's look at the last 40 years," Cruz said. "Every single time Republicans have nominated a presidential candidate who ran as a strong conservative, we won. And every time we have nominated a candidate who ran as an establishment moderate, we lost."

He's our only hope of defeating the hildebeast.
My sentiments, too. He is the only hope I see right now.
If she wins, the country will not recover in my lifetime. As it is it will be a long hard road.
Now where, o where, was that FABULOUS "barf" graphic???
It is MUCHLY needed here.
He’s right. My first choice is Cruz, then Rand, then Huckabee, then Allen West, then Trump.
Well, Bush II ran as a conservative, but he governed as a moderate.
He should of said, ‘47% chance of winning’. That would get those fools undies in a knot.

As long as we hold the House and gain the senate and KEEP it for 8 years (if she is President for two terms) then we should be ok. The only thing that Obama has done in almost 6 years is pass the Obamacare and remember that we did not have the Senator or House at the time. Had we had both there is no way we would have ACA/Obamacare...NO WAY! Heck if we didn’t do so poorly in 2008 and lost the Senate as badly, we wouldn’t have had Obamacare....they had just the number of Senators needed to pass Obamacare...one or two less and there would be no Obamacare. We need to ensure whoever is President that we keep and gain Senate Seats and keep and gain the House. Obama has passed NOTHING because of the House!!! keep that in mind.
Run, Hillaryous, run.
Not sure what the house has done to oppose Obama
I think one can easily tie Hillary to Obamacare. Hopefully that will be just enough of an anchor. Remember she started this thing with her behind the doors secret meetings when Bill was President. Then again the GOPe may decide that is out of bounds and not to be spoken about.
I do love what he’s doing and I hope he doesn’t quit the Senate to run for POTUS, but instead becomes Senate Majority Leader.
agreed. They have tossed a bone or two to the base but otherwise have nowhere near flexed their power.
That’s fine, but then who is your choice for a conservative nominee?
I’m afraid Cruz is wrong. I don’t know if there are any Republican canadidates that are popular enough to defeat her and she’s very popular with the d’RATs.
As Mitt Romney said: ‘If you want free stuff then vote for the other guy’, so most Americans, and illegals did.
I don’t see her health making it through the primaries even if she is unopposed.
Her window of opportunity has closed.
They would grovel in the presence of Hillary as wpuld a majority republican senate a super majority even
The only good news is that Cruz knows that better than we do and he cares
Pray
More like 75%.
Underestimate and lose big.
