Obviously the US Oligarchs and Euro Kleptocrats had absolutely no contingency plans in place in case Russia decided to protect the Crimea. Utter fools. You have to anticipate every possible move in diplomatic chess.

sending an immediate fact finding mission to Ukraine... with the aim of ending the crisis through political dialogue.

Uh, Ma'am? This is political dialogue. Nothing makes a diplomatic point clearer than troops on the ground.

LOL.
“...respond to the crisis in unison” Whoa! Talking tough.

Next sentence, “Both were said to be in favour of sending an immediate fact finding mission to Ukraine and backed the idea of setting up of a contact group.”

I can here Putin saying, “Vut ish contact group? I vunder vut contact vill group smellz like vin I bombz zem.”

The reality is that Russia has just invaded the Ukraine and is in the process of consolidating an occupying force in the country. He plans on staying an converting the country back to Russian ownership.

It seems Obama and the rest of the West are the ones out of touch with reality.

Putin seems to understand the saying “speak softly and carry a big stick”.

Obama: Oh I know about holding lots of those!

No, idiot, I said STICK.

They haven’t lost touch of anything. They don’t want NATO bases in Crimea.

Can’t fault them for that.

In fact, he should care. The Russian economy will suffer because of it. Russian GDP had dropped 30% already. The Ruble is going down. Today, the Russian martkets lost >10% of value. The Russian economy cannot withstand occupation, sanctions and feeding hungry Crimeans and East Ukrainians (Russian-speaking population). It is similar to Georgia/Abhasia/Ossetia situation, only multiplied by a 100. Not all Russians agree with Putin on that. There were anti-war rallies in Moscow and St. Petersburg ruthlessly suppressed by the Police. Not all Russians want to fight Ukranians, who fought side by side with them against Hitler. Russia should not follow Zhirinovsky path to hell.

Obama and the EU thought this was a new world—a Global World where social justice and global warming were the most important things. Putin has just shown them—its the same old world—Power politics rule—has they have since the 18th Century. The 1980s called Obama and he never took the call. Lets just hope Putin doesn’t just roll over the Ukraine and keep going. Let him digest Criemea for a while.
