Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Sunday that Republicans will repeal the controversial healthcare law after President Obama leaves office in 2017.
Cruz became of the face of an unsuccessful effort to eliminate the healthcare law last year that resulted in a government shutdown.
Most Republicans backed off the repeal-or-shutdown position after sustaining political damage during the two-week standoff in October, but Cruz promised on Sunday during an appearance on ABC Newss This Week to continue trying to get rid of Obamacare during the remainder of the presidents term.
Ill give you one scenario where it could [be repealed before Obama leaves office], Cruz said. If theres one thing that unifies politicians in both parties is that their top priority is preserving their own hide. If enough congressional Democrats realize they either stand with ObamaCare and lose or they listen to the American people and have a chance at staying in office, thats the one scenario we could do it in 2015. If not, well do it in 2017.
Cruz reiterated his case against the healthcare law, arguing that it was the most unpopular law in the country.
Millions of people have lost their jobs, have lost their healthcare, been forced into part time work, and right now Washington isnt listening to those people, Cruz said. Thats how we win elections and thats also how we repeal Obamacare law.

Three years from now? An established entitlement? Anyone who honestly thinks Congress will do it then I've got a bridge to sell you.
It would be great revenge - although bad precedent - to just do it by executive order along with repealing every other EO Zero signed.
Repealing Obamacare is only half the battle. NOT replacing it with some other obnoxious government program but rather persuading the majority of Americans that THE FREE MARKET is and always has been the best way to get the proven-best, highest-quality health care (or anything else) on earth, is the other half of the health care battle.
His presidency is null and void across the board when they open the books and find he was not eligable for the office and Pelosi goes directly to jail for signing off on it, poetic justice
In three years, the people will be begging for relief from this vicious law. They will have stood in line to see a doctor for a loved one who is gravely ill. They will have seen 50% of the physicians in this country set up clinics in Mexico or Canada or establishing private membership clubs, a medical version of Costco. They will have seen friends and relatives die because of this law.
Then the conservative president can declare this law null and void, as Obama has declared the Defense of Marriage Act, for example. He satisfied a bare 3% of the people with his nullification. Nullifying the ACA will satisfy 80% by then. What goes around, comes around.
And I’ll sell the companion bridge.
This is just tossing meat to the base. Just another politician.
It will never go away. It will just be amended and the can will be kicked as SOP.
So he’s going to cancel my insurance AGAIN in three years when I’m three years from Medicare? Gee, thanks.
Please tell me you don’t seriously believe that. ZERO chance that will happen. The time to have stopped/repealed this has passed. The GOP blew it.
No. America is not going to line up for the repeal. It will be business as usual. The GOP thought this with SS and Medicaid. They are still with us.
We need a different strategy that is based on a wide ranging Conservative platform and not just “Obamacare is evil”. It may be, but we aren’t suddenly going to have a collapse of the healthcare system because of it.
Run against it to be sure. But it must be done intelligently and not just “it’s bad mmmmkay” which is pretty much where we are.
I hope this happens!!
And, “State Compacts” can and will be passed by various States and approved by Congress, with NO role from Obama at all. These “State Compacts” will also eliminate large sections of Obamacare.
Obamacare will be little more than a national “High Risk Pool” within a few years. That portion of Obamacare would be hard to eliminate, as Obama got rid of all of the State High Risk Pools.
If that’s to happen in 2017, Congress had better give Hillary an offer she can’t refuse.
Repeal and replace with completely portable plans under the free market would be the ideal, but what you imply is intriguing - if Obama can take any or all of the Obamacare legislation and delay it until 2017 by fiat, what’s to stop a Republican president from taking any or all of it and delaying it until 2117?
Bingo.
1. Dump obamacare.
2. Open state borders for insurance.
3. Refuse non Americans with no means to pay ANY BUT STAUNCHING BLEEDING / emergency breathing care at hospitals.
We would be better off paying for repatriation for all ill or hurt foreigners.
4. One law for insurance companies: make them issue one lower care, cover anyone mInimum care policy. It won’t cover much except cheap antibiotics, emergency surgery, etc.
If insurance companies would sit with hospitals for a redesign, they could make, for the poor, WARDS. This is how Switzerland does it. The cheap policies are for ward care. It is a room filled with beds, not a private or semi private room.
Every product or service has a continuum of quality. Health treatment should be the same. More money should get you better care. Period. Just like it gets you a better house, or TV.
It is a philosophical mistake to try to make up the difference to the poor. Punish the hard workers to help those who made mistakes. Aesop understood this over a thousand years ago. Heloooo.

There was an article here yesterday about the same issue: delaying its implementation until 3017!!!! Love it. Why not?
It will be repealed just after the IRS is abolished.
