Poll shows Broun comfortably at front of GOP Senate field

Georgia Republican Congressman Paul Broun, whose 10th District seat includes much of the Athens area, has a considerable lead in the crowded GOP field seeking their party’s nomination to run for the U.S. Senate, according to a recent survey by left-leaning Public Policy Polling.

The survey, commissioned by progressive advocacy group Better Georgia, also shows Broun in a dead heat with Michelle Nunn, Democratic frontrunner for her party’s nomination to seek the Senate seat in the November general election. Broun’s numbers in that matchup are better than the rest of the GOP field.

With primary balloting a little more than two months away, an automated PPP survey of 324 Republican primary voters showed that 27 percent would vote for Broun if the election were held today. Polling closest to Broun was another Georgia congressman, Phil Gingrey, at 14 percent, with a third congressman, Jack Kingston, at 13 percent. Former Dollar General CEO David Perdue, cousin of former Republican Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, got the nod from 12 percent of the GOP primary voters surveyed. Karen Handel, a former Georgia secretary of state, polled at 9 percent, with minister and Georgia native Derrick Grayson earning 3 percent.

Among the GOP primary voters, 23 percent said they wanted someone else, or were not sure who they wanted, as their party’s Senate candidate.

Rep. Paul Broun is my congressman, so I pray he will win. I like him. He is also a member of my church.

Can’t wait to vote for Paul Broun. He’s going to be a great senator.

Gingrey and Saxby already made rape gaffes.

“Children conceived by rape or incest are no different than any other child that feels the pain of the abortionists forceps,” Becker added. “This bill now makes them something less—a subclass of human beings that can be painfully disposed and tossed in the garbage.”
