Progs start to realize the disaster ahead, but still are in denial
The American Thinker ^ | 15 Mar 14 | Thomas Lifson

The progressive dream, of a benevolent state led by the best and the brightest caring for a grateful population unable to fend for itself, is dying a painful death. And it is starting to dawn on some of the smarter Democrats -- people like David Plouffe -- that they face an electoral Armageddon in November.

In an interview with Al Hunt broadcast aired last night on Bloomberg TV, former Obama adviser Plouffe:

I agree with you that it’s an oxymoron, and I agree with the author of the line. That is, the left believes in a “benevolent state.” What they don’t get or don’t understand is that the state is just people doing their jobs, and when people have power they become, in the the great phrase of Lord Acton, corrupted - “Power corrupts. Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.”

Maybe they’ve read your contributions on FR and just decided you don’t qualify for medical care. Of course, you’d have to be some kind of nutjob conspiracy theorist to believe something like that.

Perhaps. Not much of a hardship, I haven’t had insurance for 6 or 7 years now.

The longer they stay in denial the better our chances at winning more seats. Hopefully by Tea Party type conservatives.

Don’t get cocky, guys. I’ve seen such “we can’t lose, they can’t win” rhetoric before - then ended up with the Obama ... twice.

Dittos. They'll probably support the next Democrat (Hillary?) who promises them something for nothing.

I worry that these young fools won't suffer bad enough to learn a lesson from their stupidity. There is a good chance they will be duped again by the next filthy lowlife who promises them the gifts of hope and change.

"His little experiment proved why socialism doesn't work. "

Venezuela proves why socialism doesn't work. Greece proves why socialism doesn't work. Spain proves why socialism doesn't work. The British NHS and it's health rationing and death panels proves why socialism doesn't work. Cuba proves why socialism doesn't work. The old Soviet Union proves why socialism doesn't work.

Why does not anyone on our side ever try to explain to the people that "free chit" from the government comes at a tremendous price?- i. e. I was just reading an article about Venezuela where it said the people are stamped with a number and herded into line to receive their food ration from the government.-How awful.

Has anyone asked the people here, depending on the free stuff, what they will do when it runs out? They can ask the people of Greece about it.

Why would anyone want the government to control them? Especially considering the politicians who would rule them have no intention of living by the same restrictions they would enforce on the people. In fact they have already exempted themselves from their own laws.

Why would you give up the freedom to make your own decisions for your own lives America?

Why?!

Collectivists will never admit that any disaster either exists or is due to their economic model. If anything, they will always call for more of the same.

I agree. They blame the Republicans for the poverty in the cities and the collapse of places like Detroit; they never accept accountability for their own failed policies, corruption, crime, or anything with negative impacts.

It was an add-on for getting food stamps. *sigh*

My “problem” is despite the thousand of resumes and cover letters, despite years of intensive networking, despite calling in and doing hundreds of favors, my industry has proven utterly incapable of finding me or any of the hundreds of thousands of unemployed American engineers, and “our” congress has seen fit to import yet another 85,000 H-1Bs this year to fill all those jobs that we could do, if only we existed.

If they really wanted me to spend less time on FR, they would get the heck out of the way and let me work for a living. We'd both be happier.

I am sorry.

I am livid over the whole thing, I guess I will quit telling my son to be an engineer

He quit college despite being good at math and science.

Now he fixes vacuums.

likes it.

I hate the Democrats for their lying and thieving.

I do not know what to think

I am about ready to give up, to challenge God to do what he promises and provide

Thank you.

My son could also be a good engineer, it broke my heart when I realized I could not in good conscience advise him to become one.

I am about ready to give up, to challenge God to do what he promises and provide

I'm an agnostic, and I feel the same way!

(Although having read The Book, that is a very scarey prospect!)

Don’t pop your bottle if McConnell, Graham, Roberts, Cochran, Alexander, Udall takeover the Senate.

Because they intend to ‘work with the President’ to continue the progressive agenda.

“China is one heckuva example.”

Or look at Germany, or Korea.

Here are (or were in Germany’s case) 2 countries, with the exact same people (and very smart and hard working people in both cases), the same land, culture, tradition, etc.

On the commie side: deprivation, oppression, misery, on the free side: tremendous wealth, productivity, creativity, and general contentment.

Also the example of the Kibbutzes in Israel that Milton Friedman gives in a book. Highly motivated people who wanted to live communally on Kibbutzes, but they really just didn’t like it after a while.

People really do want to be free, they just don’t make good stockyard animals.

“I’m going to go out and get a bottle of Bushmill’s Black and sip some whiskey and watch the seed of satan self implode”

Now that sounds like a lot of fun! I hope there’s a “the voters had a temper tantrum” moment for you to enjoy.

The big secret is: be willing to glorify God and to believe that God rewards it.

God puts believers in tough spots on purpose. It is to show the world what happens when a believer faces the impossible.
