Ben Carson emerges as sleeper threat in N.H. Republican Party event straw poll

Sen. Rand Paul and Gov. Chris Christie placed first and second in a straw poll held during this weekend's Northeast Republican Leadership Conference, but Dr. Ben Carson may have stolen the show without being a candidate for anything. He emerged in third place with 11 per cent support, tied with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Sen. Rick Santorum. Paul led them by less than four points, with 14.7 per cent support. Christie polled 13 per cent. A 'draft committee' intent on sparking Carson to run for the White House in 2016 raised more than $2.8 million in its first six months of existence. That's more than double what the 'Ready For Hillary' group raised in its initial half-year, even though Hillary Clinton's candidacy seems far more assured than Carson's.

I will wait and see who the GOP presidential candidate will be, after the primaries. And then give my financial support.

Vote all the RATS out!

Remember though that Hoover was an engineer. He was not a lawyer........ points on for pragmatism

We’ll just have to wait and see. And the odds of getting two “black” presidents in a row are pretty slim.

I just posted the article for interest. I am hoping Cruz runs. I do not want warmed over losers.

Some of Rand’s ideas are good but unmistakenly, Paul-Bots are making an end run on some of these ballots, I hope Paul-Bots are better than Liberal-Tarians. Rand Paul certainly is very pro-life, http://nationalprolifealliance.com/tpfh_petition.aspx?pid=1130 .

2) climbing on the bandwagon of a minority Republican without any sort of voting record to show just how conservative they actually are. (Hello Colin, Condi, Allen “Pigford” West, and Herman McCain)
////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Allen West on Pigford vote:

There were some 40 amendments to this piece of legislation and there are those who questioned my NO vote on Rep. Steve King’s amendment on Pigford. I accept full responsibility for not doing a complete due diligence and personal research on this amendment. I am mortal and a fallible human being who seeks to do his best daily, and improve as such.”

Carson’s comments reflect his life experience. He respects the Bill of Rights, but he has trouble applying it to the everyday reality of a major city where shootings are commonplace. It’s a problem that a lot of urban residents have.

The nation is filled with people who think their own common sense or life experience trumps the Constitution. I don’t trust any of them.

I agree, thumbs up. Too, this is what the debates are for. Sometimes what we read is almost disinformation.

Why is the loser Rick Santorum running?

Rick Santorum? Oh, yeah, now I remember.

You are right, a superb engineer, and Hoover was a one man FEMA in those days.
As witness for his Commission for Relief in Belgium after WWI, and his relief efforts in the massive Mississippi flooding during the Coolidge presidency.

Points on pragmatism and efficiency and a stickler on eliminating government waste. He was a better man and humanitarian than president.

Just one of Carson’s ‘conservative’ positions:

On the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country, Carson says he would ”of course allow [illegal immigrants] to have a pathway to citizenship. That’s the only humane and reasonable thing to do.”

No gun grabbers. If Ben Carson is running for Surgeon General, I’ll think about it. President? No way.

And if you believe that he just happened to slip in his due diligence and voted with the Black Congressional Caucus on a massive, fraudulent give-away to blacks because of all those confusing amendments he didn’t pore over in detail...

I love a great deal of what Carson says, but he is/was sadly confused about the meaning of the Second Amendment. The reason that I say “is/was” is that his statements seem to be evolving very recently. Search them yourself.

He is not just a doctor.

Yes, he's a great doctor and a great guy. I'm a great girl. But that doesn't make me a potential president.

Where does he stand? We know he's against Obamacare but then what? We know he's pro-gun control. Where does he stand on Iran? Ukraine? What is his position on defense spending? Where does he stand on entitlements? How and where will he cut spending - what programs will he gut? Where is he on taxes? He is a total unknown on those, assuming he's even given any thought to them.

In 12, those damn bots started attacking everyone to try and clear the field for Palin who wasn’t even running. Carson hasn’t given any hints about running.

Bill Clinton was not the DEM front-runner in NH in 1992.
Goerge W Bush was not the GOP front-runner in NH in 2000.
Barack Obama was not the DEM front-runner in NH in 2008.

And those are the actual PRIMARIES, not straw polls done a year in advance.

NH and Iowa mean very little when it comes to naming the actual eventual candidate. They merely weed out a few of the names that most certainly will NOT be the eventual candidate (with huge assists from the MSM, of course)

I am hoping Cruz runs

There have only been 3 sitting US Senators elected President - zero from 1789-1916, 3 since 1920. Two of the three were elected during their first term - Harding and Obama.

The track record is not encouraging. The skill set for talking yourself into the US Senate is useful for BECOMING President, but it sucks for actually BEING President.

The President, among other things, manages 2.1 million employees of the Executive Branch. It's a safe bet that, when and if a conservative takes office, that 85%-90% of those two million plus employees will be bitterly and irrevocably opposed to him, and will do everything possible to oppose and to frustrate him (remember, they can't be fired).

This calls for a person with an outstanding track record as an administrator and as an executive.

Apologies to you and to Senator Cruz, but you're fishing in the wrong pond.

Point here being, one can selectively quote to prove points, this recent article in facts outlines Ben Carson as being AGAINST gun control.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/03/10/Dr-Ben-Carson-Against-Gun-Registration-Because-We-Should-Be-Really-Concerned-About-Martial-Law

“On Monday at The New York Meeting, Dr. Ben Carson said he does not believe in gun registration because America’s massive debt could transform the nation into a third-world country in which martial law may be imposed.

Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who has been getting buzz in conservative circles, said that he changed his mind and was against gun registration because of the “sinister internal forces” that could surface in that scenario. He said he “used to think they needed to be registered, but if you register them they just come and find you and take your guns.”

“If we were only concerned about external forces, then we would be okay,” he said. “But there are some pretty sinister internal forces.”
