U.S. warns Russia against annexing Crimea
Washington Post ^ | March 16, 2014 | By Karen DeYoung

Having failed to prevent a Russian-sponsored referendum in Crimea, the Obama administration and its European allies refocused their efforts Sunday on keeping Moscow from annexing the autonomous Ukrainian region and expanding its military moves into other parts of Ukraine.

In a telephone call to Russian President Vladimir Putin — his third in two weeks — President Obama said that the referendum “would never be recognized by the United States and the international community” and that “we are prepared to impose additional costs on Russia for its actions,” the White House said.

Putin rectified Khrushchev’s mistake.

What was Khrushchev's mistake, banging his shoe on the table?

Handing over Crimea from the Russian Federated Soviet Socialist Republic to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1954. As an empty gesture to win over the Ukrainians he ruthlessly ruled over as Stalin’s puppet in the 1940s.

It seems that the importance of Crimea can be gaged by the facts that Obama skipped the last National Security Council meeting, the press is obsessed with flight 370 and the overwhelming importance to the administration of March Madness. Don’t expect any involvement from Obama during the NCAA tournament. You gotta be reasonable after all there are priorities.

If they really meant business, they’d send Kerry, Hillary, Pelosi, Reid, Barbara Boxer, Hank Johnson, and Michelle over.

Actually, they should send Sheila Jackass Lee. She'd waddle into the room, loudly announcing that "...she was the Congresswoman," and proceed to frighten them all into abject submission with her lying, forked tongue.

Vlad Putin - defender of the faith...http://www.the-american-interest.com/berger/2012/06/13/vladimir-putin-defender-of-the-faith/

Putin likes to be photographed in the company of Orthodox priests. He claims to have been secretly baptized during Soviet times and to have had some sort of religious conversion.

The new Christian Russia is surrounded by islamic anti-christian radicals funded by USA/EU pro democracy dollars. These same dollars liberated Libya into the hand of Al Qaeda and created the Arab Spring that nearly delivered Egypt to the Moslem Brotherhood.

There aren't enough adjectives to describe the twisted logic of liberals who prefer islam to christianity.

As many have already pointed out, there is nothing to stop Putin from annexing Crimea and all of Ukraine. Is Western Europe willing to fight for Ukraine’s independence?

I think part of Putin’s game may be to demonstrate to Western Europe and the rest of the world that they cannot depend any longer on the United States for help. That ship sailed long ago.

And if Western Europe cannot depend on the U.S. for help, and, if it will not defend Eastern Europe from Russian annexation, what good is NATO or the EU? Would the United States fight Russia to protect Western Europe? Would Western Europe fight Russia to defend itself?

I think the moral and political decay of Western Europe is ripe for the taking - or if not outright annexation, just sheer intimidation to let Russia do whatever it wants.

This is a major shake up of NATO and the security of the rest of the world - it is of historical significance. If the United States will not/cannot stop ANY aggression by a major power against allies we swore to protect - then we have just crossed into the post-American dominance of world politics.

I think this is what Putin has just demonstrated. China is watching this too. If we won’t or can’t defend Europe, then can we or will we defend Southest Asia (i.e. Japan, Taiwan, etc.).

We are being shown to the world to be a paper tiger when it comes to standing up to a major power. And, as we all know, power abhors a vacuum.

This is a bad combination - reducing our conventional military capabilities, reducing our nuclear strike capabilities, and openly telling the world that we no longer want or can afford to protect the rest of the world from aggressors.

On top of all of that, we also no longer have the moral or spiritual high ground when our own government spies on its own citizens and allies more than its enemies. We no longer stand for personal freedom of the individual based on the belief in God-given rights that our founders used as the basis for our revolution. We don’t even believe in God anymore, except as a catch phrase that’s dropped in a speech by our politicians from time to time.

No, we are now just another statist nation that has turned over control of our economy, our bodies, our property, and our freedom to the government. Our nation’s leaders cannot even defend marriage from being defined as anything anyone chooses to define it. We refuse to defend the unborn, the most helpless in our society. Many of our nation’s intellectuals actually blame faith in God as the cause for the world’s problems. The idea of the God of the Bible is rejected - He is accused of being narcissistic, egotistical, hateful, twisted, etc. Of course it is upon Biblical ideas that our laws and view of human worth and freedom are founded, so remove the foundation and we have what? Shifting sand.

Unless God intervenes out of mercy, the United States is a dead man walking. Those who believe in Christianity know that our ultimate hope is in Him alone, but I mourn for my lost nation. I rejoice in Him, but my heart breaks for the great United States of America. But, with God, who knows? Perhaps if our nation truly repents - God in His great mercy may send us, yet again, another revival. I believe that is our only hope for this nation’s future.

Nato can only attack small defenseless Christian countries that are trying to defend themselves from radical muslims.

We should dump Nato. I don't see the use of it anymore.
