Data Deleted From Missing Pilot's Flight Simulator: Official
NBC ^ | March 19, 2014 | Henry Austin

Posted on 03/19/2014 8:15:55 AM PDT by don-o

Data was deleted from a flight simulator found at the home of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet's pilot, an official said Wednesday.

"Forensic work to retrieve this data is ongoing," Hishammuddin Hussein, Malaysia's acting transport minister, told a news conference. He added that local and international experts had been recruited to examine the homemade device belonging to Zaharie Ahmad Shah, the 53-year-old captain of the Boeing 777.

It was not immediately clear who deleted the files and why.

"The passengers, the pilots and the crew remain innocent until proven otherwise," Hishammuddin added. "For the sake of their families I ask that we refrain from any unnecessary speculation that will make their lives harder.”

Police Inspector General Khalid Abu Bakar added that "the data of the games has been cleared on February 3" and that "experts are looking at the logs." Flight 370 vanished while traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8.

The daily news conference descended into chaos before they spoke, when distressed protesters were removed by officials.

I’ve got the same rig as he does, sans one monitor. He has yoke, pedals quadrant, and four monitors...I’ve got 3....if I had room, I’d have five:-)

Quite possible. Just hard to say. Another theory I’ve seen vindicates him entirely...that there was a fire and he diverted to try and reach a nearby airport, but then was overcome by smoke and fumes, cue Payne Stewart scenario. Sim flights to nearby landings could easily mean he felt there was something wrong with the plane but they wouldn’t listen or couldn’t find anything.

It’s entirely possible someone onboard had an attack of SJS, but at the same time we have to consider it’s also possible everyone is innocent and this simply is a bizarre tragedy rather than a conspiracy.

I can’t get past the “fact” (ha!) that the initial course deviation was loaded before takeoff. If true (!) that indicates intention.

The simulator is only as good as the software development that went into it and that would logically focus on the common parameters and conditions that might be expected. How useful then would a simulator be at flying near the outer limits of what a given plane might do, which is invariable more complicated. It’s not magic going on in that computer simulator, so then how valuable would it be to a very seasoned pilot with 18,000 hours. I’m sure any pilot worth his salt could test the simulator and find flaws at more extreme parameters.

I just wonder realistically how valuable is the simulator outside the come parameters which this pilot already has 18,000 hours experience? That’s a lot of experience and intuition.

I think the simulator may be a red herring.

Make that: ...is the simulator outside the “common” parameters which this...

In other words, if I pulled off a barrel roll in a simulator would that really equate to reality? It comes down to the programmer’s interpretation of the physics of flying and at what point do you call it a day...who does a barrel roll in a 777 anyway?

Wait...

This story is based on the word of a Malaysian “official?” Are you kidding me? Have they said one stinking thing that has turned out to even resemble the truth?

I think it's suicidal to have all this stuff on the Internet for terrorists to see and defeat the aircraft's vulnerabilities. Sheer idiocy. There was probably a stowaway in the MH-370's E&E bay, waiting to pop into action. I think there's a door to the cockpit from that bay as well.

Time to take tight control of these systems, Boeing, and the airlines, too.. Background checks and high clearance access or NO GO. And NO PHOTOS.

Yep

Access from what I read on a thread is outside cockpit, lift carpet, open floor hatch and climb down.

Who ever would have to have knowledge of that bay.
One is not just gonna hop down there and find the right disconnect.

But that's PROFILING!

The A/C companies like to show off the wares for sale.
