Up until the time police put her in handcuffs and loaded her into a cruiser, Ann Musser was not expecting to be arrested.
I just wished that at least for my first time getting arrested, I had something interesting to say about what I had done wrong, said Musser, a Holyoke resident.
Musser was arrested at her home Friday night on an outstanding arrest warrant issued by Holyoke District Court for failing to appear in court. The court appearance was scheduled last September because Musser had failed to comply with repeated requests from the city of Holyoke in June for her to renew the license for Pumpkin, her 14-year-old family dog.
Musser, 41, admits failing to pay the $5 renewal fee was an oversight on her part, but she had a lot on her mind at the time. The main thing was the diagnosis for advanced ovarian cancer and having to undergo major surgery.

That’s a pretty picayune list...indeed.
Enjoy the kitty!
I just wonder what Yakov Smirnoff would say about it?
In this day and age Id almost be proud to be on that list.
This is the country Michelle Obama is proud of?
They could come in to your house and inspect at any time? I would have handed the cat back to them, sadly. They have no business in your house.
The Commissars of Marxachusetts want to see your papers, Comrade. Illness, and even Death, are no excuse.
To mess with the bureaucrats’ revenue stream.
So long as the valiant officers got home to their families safe; that’s all that matters /s
“I would have handed the cat back to them, sadly. “
It was love at first sight. This was her last day before the gas chamber. They tried to talk me out of taking her because she was ill. Nope. When I took her in my hands she extended her paws and hugged me to her and purred.
Ahhhh.
She was probably the only arrest in Holyoke in the last year who spoke English, who was not involved with drugs, and who was not a risk to shoot it out with the cops.
It’s Massasschewshits. I would expect nothing less from these neo-Nazi liberal freaks.
All you conservatives behind enemy lines, move. Now! These liberal Nazi freaks are milking you like cattle, taking the money you earn to support their goosestepping empire.
Starve them. Move now! It doesn’t matter how much money you make in these liberal sh*tholes. They will steal it from you and use it to impoverish your family and make themselves more powerful.
Move! You don’t want to be behind enemy lines when TSHTF.
YET.
My town abolished dog licenses years ago. It adds a hassle to do ownership one doesn’t need.
That said, elevating an infraction to a felony charge is ridiculous in the extreme.
When you read the story, you learn she did pay the fee but somehow the court warrant was never canceled like it should have been.
You had cops arresting someone who posed no threat to society simply because the city bureaucracy couldn’t note for its records that the dog license had already been paid for.
Its like out of Kafka.
And you took the cat? You're a bigger man than I am.
I would have jumped up, told them they were crazy, asked them how much to put it down, slapped the money on the table, then asked how much to put down the people who made the list.
It was love at first sight. This was her last day before the gas chamber. They tried to talk me out of taking her because she was ill. Nope. When I took her in my hands she extended her paws and hugged me to her and purred.
Ahhhh.
She is one lucky kitty. :-)
Let me understand.
The cat was ill.
You still wanted it.
They still treated you like dirt.
Like I said, you’re a bigger man than I am.
“The cat was ill.”
My vet was disgusted. She said the air system layout at the pound guaranteed that all the animals would catch an airborne disease. That was 15 years ago and she still gets congestion. But she’s been a wonderful companion.
