The House Oversight Committee will vote to hold former IRS official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress next Thursday.
Lerner, a key figure in the tea party targeting controversy that scarred the agency last year, has been under the threat of contempt for more than a month after she again invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to testify at a hearing.
Americans expect accountability and want Congress to do all it can to gather relevant evidence about what occurred and who was responsible so that this never happens again, said Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.). Ms. Lerners involvement in wrongdoing and refusal to meet her legal obligations has left the Committee with no alternative but to consider a contempt finding.

Ohhhh, I bet she’s so scared. </sarcasm>
What separation? Congress has done this to itself by acceding so much of its own power to the executive.
Mister Speaker, I vote Aye. I yield back the balance of my time.
OK, let’s say they hold her in contempt of Congress, what then?
Does she go to jail? Pay a fine? WHAT?
If this is going to in effect just say -— “You’ve been a very bad girl”, what’s the point?
What are the odds it will be “delayed”
You are MUCH more lenient than I would be.
TAR. FEATHERS. ROPE.

Finally. I thought they had given up on contempt charges.
So a totally non-thread related question. What knot has Trey Gowdy used in that picture? Please don’t say “half windsor” because I can NEVER get mine to look that good.
Trey, your always “Ready to” do this or do that. But you never actually DO this or that. Either grow a pair and do it, or STFU.
One can only assume that Lerner needs more time to prepare her defense.
He's the smartest lawyer on the Committee, so he knows his boundaries.
IF he had the power, he would make good.
As it is, I think he trying to goad the Chairman into taking the right course.
Lynch her from the tree of liberty.
Lerner is/was a public employee. The notion that she doesn’t have to explain her job and activities to congress is industrial strength nonsense. Taking the fifth applies to criminal charges, nothing more. Refusing to talk about her job just makes her a gummint dumbass but the fifth has nothing to do with it. Imagine an Inspector General coming to your dept., asking a few pertinent questions, and you refuse to discuss your job with the IG? In my previous world you would have picked up your last check before the day was over. She should be “comtempted” and she should lose her pension for non-performance. The woman is an arrogant, incompetent, beetch who deserves everything she’s gonna get.
Lois is a player in the game. She would not negotiate a no prosecution deal for her testimony, although she did lead the committee on a bit prior to her last appearance.
Lois then gave statements to the Justice Department “investigators” lead by the in house Dept of justice Obama Campaigners.
In otherwords she really WAS in contempt of Congress, plus there is a case to be made that she had waived her right to plead the 5th amendment when she first began making public statemenst about her involvement in the IRS violation of applicant due process.
Congress can compel her testimony by holding her in comtempt and incarcerating her, at leat for the duration of this session of Congress.
The question is whether the House has the political will to go all the way.
The FedMob has no problem jailing journalists for not revealing confidential sources. re Judith Miller. No reason this Lerner pig shouldn’t be locked up.
I'm looking back to see when Obama started caring about the separation of powers.
...haven't found anything yet.
