Analysis: U.S. Cozies Up to Kiev Gov't Including Far Right(McCain pictured next to Neo-Nazi leader?)

The U.S. and Europe have been emphatic in their support of the new Ukrainian government – but a significant number of Washington's new bedfellows are members of what some experts class as extreme right-wing parties.

When Sen. John McCain traveled to Kiev in December, he told the crowd of 200,000 on Independence Square: "The free world is with you, America is with you, I am with you."

But among those stood next to the veteran Republican was Oleh Tyahnybok, leader of the Svoboda Party. Some policy analysts have called Svoboda ultra-nationalist and even neo-Nazi.

Svoboda, which means "Freedom," was given almost a quarter of the Cabinet positions in the interim government formed after the ouster of President Viktor Yanukovych in February.

The party's policies center around protecting the rights of what it calls “ethnic Ukrainians,” the preservation of the Ukrainian language and culture, and strict controls on immigration.

Although much of the more extreme content has now been removed from Svoboda’s leaflets, the European Parliament passed a resolution on Ukraine in 2012 that asked Kiev not to associate with the party on account of its “racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic views.”

One of the party's lawmakers was appointed to run the powerful defense ministry before being forced out. However, Svoboda still holds one of the vice prime minister posts as well as the ministries of agriculture and the environment.

Do they know what freedom brings with it?.... Had they really known would they have succumbed to a violent coup and allowed their revolution to be taken over by outsiders as they did? ....They were 'not prepared'...the orange revolution taught them little.

Freedom brings with it responsibility and to think things through...plan and organize the aftermath...it is not enough to raise your voice.....Ukrainians once again left wide open huge gaps for others more powerful to rush in and take hold, and they did and they have....they "depended" on outsiders to foot the bill without understanding that freedom is not free...they would have to pay the piper.

Now they continue to play the victim.....I won't buy that anymore...they've had so many opportunites and derailed them along the way....and frankly 'The majority', as you say,..... depends on which side of the country you're looking at and which poll you choose to view.

As I've stated before, Ukraine is not a united country, it's been divided for years and years and until they accept that both sides must be represented in their governance, and that winning elections doesn;t mean you rule or be unjust to the other side...they cannot know the freedom they seek.

The choices they have made is not for freedom, but if or not Russia will have more say or the EU/US. They will end up as in the past....both will be appeased for sake of survival...and the battles will continue....within and without.

The only people denying Ukraine the freedom they seek are the Ukrainians.....as long as they have their hands in outsiders pockets they will owe...and bend to those they put over themselves.

No different than now the once great USA, I'm surprised there hasn't been a stand her!

If these guys aren’t Neo-Nazis (or something close to it)then who are, huh? Did something akin to the Nazi flag just magically appear in some peoples hands on this thread in the pics that were given, huh?

The point of this whole thread, and the nearly identical one like it, word for word, is not that there are nazis, but that it labels the entire government and at least half of the nation as nazi-sympathizers. Of course there are dangerous fringe elements in Ukraine, arguing against that fact is like arguing that there are no people with red hair. But these groups are a small minority in the government, in the parliament and in the general population.

Now let me tell you what happens when you label Ukraine's government and at least half of the country as nazi-sympathizers. It means, these people are animals and you can go into their country, annex a part of their territory for yourself, and demand a 'regime change', preferably headed by a twice-convicted loyal puppet like Yanek. Nazi-sympathizers deserve no sympathy and can easily be killed on the spot, or resettled in Siberia (an idea that is being floated by one of the Russian ministers). This "neo-Nazi" casus belli gives Putin carte blanche to do anything (that's my Latin/French for the day, but I'll only use it once here) Thankfully, nobody in the world is falling his line, except for beacons of democracy like Syria and N. Korea

You could be genuinely concerned about these fringe groups, or just repeating what Putin says to support his war against Ukraine, I don't know. If it's the second, then it's just a cynical exploitation of the real anti-Semitic threat that does exist in the world.

Sounds like the only players you see in Ukraine are the Russians and Ukranians.....which isn't the case by any means. The International Politicians are knee deep and have been, and that not FOR Ukraine but against Putin. Ukraine is basically the bystander.

As you know there are many moving parts to Ukraine that the EU/NATO/US and Russia are influencing....and they 'all' use the undesirables to their advantage while they attach themselves to whatever piece of the Ukrainian pie is significant to them.... Not just Russia Ivan...and there is no exaggeration to it...it's how the big players work.

All that's happening in Ukraine isn't about their freedom...it's about how much of Ukraine the interested parties can control, manage, and steal. ...which of course the USA had all Ukraine's gold shipped immediately to the FED.."for safe keeping" don't you know, (Rather like they did for Germany, and we now know how that played out.) when in fact it's payback for the revenues the USA put into Ukraine to support 'their' revolution. Ukraine will never see that gold again.

Russia got Ukraine's Crimea, the ports, the navy and their oil.

US got Ukraine's gold, and perhaps a missil base?

EU got their economic trade deal which Ukraine will have to use to pay off the EU.

Ukraine will get exactly what these three squabble over to give them...and you can be sure it won't be sufficient for Ukraine to ever go it alone.

Ukraine now has three boots on their necks.

Laughing because Ukraine is so screwed no matter how they play their hand.....there are so many fractions in their divided country it’s a wonder in itself they’ve even survived one another let alone all those coming in and out...bad guys always go where the fight is even if they have no vested interest.

Course it might look like that one day here with the way the nation is catering to every thug coming here now. Just takes a tipping point and enough push to get the masses in charge mode. Heck we already have the Mexicans marching and the Muslims marching.....next we’ll see Puerta Ricans and Cubans doing likewise in mass. ....and they’ll get infiltrated too.

....”Hilarious that we’re involved in this Eastern European comedy...”......

I was just laughing about it tonight......Ukraine's like a bad three ring circus of untamed animals all trying to get payback for being mistreated...and we hear all the roaring and growling while the "tammers' crack the whips to get them in line.

A meeting she posted to and about, one of several on her face book page. .... Note her mentioning how the candles represented what would be otherwise torches carried in the streets, and how great she thought this was representative of. If you post back you’ll find link to her site.

Breaking in Ukraine.....coming undone....

Being reported....More Right Sector and Euromaidan activists are heading to Donetsk Ukraine to stop pro-Kremlin operations.....so far it appears police are not interfering much to speak of...might be relatively compliant with the Pro-Russian protesters?

More....Looks like the clash for Eastern Ukraine will be in Donestk currently....time will tell but several cities are protesting there...Donestk, Lukansk, and one other...

More....Ukrainian police are trying to block access to Donetsk but Pro-Russians are providing real-time alternate routes and checkpoint...

More...pro-Kremlin groups from all over eastern Ukraine are calling in to give their estimated time of arrival in Donesk to support operation.
