Joe Wilson Was Right When He Told The President 'You Lie'

He was correct. Prescient even. But one politician's invective directed at President Obama early in his administration seems to have been forgotten.

On Sept. 9, 2009, Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., interrupted a speech by the president to a joint session of Congress by shouting, "You lie!"

The incident resulted in a formal rebuke to the congressman, essentially along party lines, by the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.

Wilson may have been indecorous, but he was right, and the president has continued to deceive. The whopper of his presidency is, of course, likely to be:

"If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period."

But there has been more. Much more.

Joe Wilson (not val plames hubby either) is an American hero for calling a spade a spade. OOps. Guess I can't say that. Uh, calling a liar a liar. Yeah, that's it. Sadly it didn't stop the assault on truth.

Joe would have been correct too if he had called him a lying POS.

I’d respect him a lot more if he hadn’t backed off and apologized for the incident.

I agree would on principle, but if memory serves correctly he was finally persuaded or coerced by Republican leaders to apologize. If true, then he had to decide which of two choices would best serve his constituents.

Obama lying about O/Care in the SOTU way back then has continued---and is illustrative of his favorite pastime: manipulating public opinion.

==========================================

4/3/14 WSJ--NOONAN: A CATASTROPHE LIKE NO OTHER (WH spin shows a calculated Obama)

SNIP-- Support it or not, you cannot look at ObamaCare and call it anything but a huge, historic mess....utterly unique in the annals of American lawmaking and govt administration.....

.....then-Democratic speaker Pelosi blithely, mindlessly said---but in a way forthcomingly—that we have to pass it to find out what's in it. .... an historic admission that she was fighting hard for something she herself didn't understand, but she had every confidence regulators and bureaucratic interpreters would tell her in time what she'd done.

....for the next three years Democrats would carry on like blithering idiots making believe they'd read the bill and understood its implications. They were later taken aback by complaints from their constituents. The White House seems to have understood, and lied to Americans in a way so specific, it showed they knew exactly what to spin and how. "If you like your health-care plan, you can keep your health-care plan, period." Your existing policy had to pass muster.....they'd fight to the death to ensure that 60-year-old women have pediatric dental coverage.

....the president's victory lap approach on Tuesday, when he announced the purported 7.1 million enrollees. "The debate over repealing this law is over. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay. . . . was political showbiz of a particular sort, asking whether the picture given of a thing will counter the experience of the thing.

===========================================

The following stunning Noonan insight made me forget all the things I didn't like about her.

"Pelosi's urgings inspired Democrats, who for the next three years would carry on like blithering idiots making believe they'd read the bill and understood its implications. They were later taken aback by complaints from their constituents. "

The White House, on the other hand, seems to have understood what the bill would do, and lied in a way so specific it showed they knew exactly what to spin and how.

"Keep your plan" of course was the president, misrepresenting the facts of his signature legislative effort. Your existing policy had to pass muster with the administration, which would fight to the death to ensure that 60-year-old women have pediatric dental coverage.

He should have made one of those fake "in the event that I have offended anybody" apologies and then reviewed all the Obama lies. That way you remind people of all the lies. Liberals do it all the time. Anytime they are asked an uncomfortable question they never answer it. They just use it as an excuse to deflect blame.

When it happened, Rahm Emmanuel called up Boehner, cussed a blue streak at him, and demanded an apology. Boehner, spineless as always, complied and ordered Wilson to fall on his sword. I remember it well.

Yes, he was right, but most of us knew that, long before he said it.

OK, hardball. I can go with that, except Wilson must have concluded he would have been put in a closet and his constituents would have been left with nothing. It was his call. On the other hand, you and I might have used the quiet time to broadcast far and wide to all who would listen just how appropriate was our statement and how weak and feeble our "leadership" was.

The other close call IMHO was when the members of the USSC chose to not walk out of O's State of the Union speech during which he criticized/ridiculed one of their then recent decisions. Needless to say, I wasn't cut out to be a politician.

I do not disagree with your recollection, although I seem to recall Wilson saying he got either two telcals from prominent Republicans or was on a joint call with two of them. I did write about it at the time here on FR and Boner was one of the parties.

And, as The Kid suggests, Wilson should have at least given the public a clear factual explanation for his action. I do not think Boner would have been able to justify any further unfavorable treatment.
