Is Mozilla legally a hostile workplace under both state and federal laws?

Posted on 04/06/2014 11:03:10 AM PDT by airedale

Hasn't the lead up to, the firing and subsequent press release made Mozilla a hostile workplace not only for those who financially supported Prop. 8 or similar laws, but anyone who does not fully support same sex marriage? Can a Mormon, Evangelical or other conservative Christian, Muslim, religious Jew have a career at Mozilla? Do they have to live in fear if their actual views or suspected views don't comply with Mozilla' s idea of diversity (agree with same sex marriage or be forced out?)

Are those news organizations supporting Mozilla' s decision also making their business a hostile work place?

The thing that struck me were the fawing and craven statements from this CEO, in his attempt to to suck-up to the politically correct Red Guards and homosexual lobby.

It didn’t even save his job either - they still forced him out.

You can not compromise with radicals.

The hate and hostile workplace laws only work in one direction. Similar to racism, which by definition as accepted by government and MSM, can only exist in whites toward blacks.

Dude, this is brilliant! Yes our side needs to file a suit on this. I am a huge fan of using the left’s tactics against them; they can’t handle it.

When Gov Walker (WI) was Milw Co. exec there was a budget rally to support him. When I found that the unions were going to protest I decided to go. I made a 2 sided sign that said:

We are the ones who have been over-paying you, and

I survived a pay cut, so can you

The union goons were stunned, couldn’t believe that someone was protesting them!

I seriously hope this tactic gets pursued.

“You can not compromise with radicals.”

and one should not even try. They will just bayonet you when they get close so the best advice is to cut them down before they get inside the wire.

And doing so illegally, but as if a judge is going to rule in favor of actual law in California.

I have been watching their feedback page this weekend and they are getting hammered by outraged Firefox users. After I uninstalled them I added my two cents worth. The totalitarians and their quislings must begin experiencing pushback themselves.

This is exactly what I worry about at work.

We have a guy on our team who’s gay. If he decides to get married, will I be accused of creating a hostile work environment if I don’t attend his wedding shower or buy him a gift or a card for it, or don’t attend his wedding or buy him a gift or a card for it?

I just pray he doesn’t get married and I don’t have to find out.

Are you sure it was Brendan Eich who made the statements? Someone else at Mozilla released a statement after he resigned.

Silly person. Tolerance has a one way valve. Besides, they covered their asses. He was not fired. He resigned. He should have gone down fighting and taken the company through the wringer with him.

What fawning and craven statements? Cite us some examples.

I agree. He hardly did a thing. Orson Scott Card, on the other hand, did better when people got outraged over his stances, and demanded a Boycott of his film. He simply stated that he wasn’t a threat to anyone, and Harrison Ford chimed in as well, stating that the film and the books didn’t push any blatant bivotry. I wish Eich coukd have done something simikar and stated that he hadno problem despite his positions with his coworkers.

I can’t say. How well does he know you? I had it the other way around. Due to circumstance, someone whom I know was a homosexual but unable to come due tp travel circumstances, I wrote thanks for the congratulatory note, and figured that I handled it the best I could. It also depends on the size of tje reception, maybe there’s only so many who cn come?

Good point. I wish some would force test the issue.

There is no law requiring you to be his buddy outside of work. You do not have to attend his social gatherings or purchase gifts for him. He cannot make demands on your personal time. just tell him that you do not mix business with your social life.

Like I said...Brendan Eich needs to get a labor lawyer.

Companies in the Santa Clara Valley are routinely sued for far, far less and the worker wins.

He can bankrupt Mozilla over this.

if I don’t attend his wedding shower or buy him a gift or a card for it, or don’t attend his wedding or buy him a gift or a card for it?

I don't know, but I didn't ever attend a wedding shower or wedding or buy a gift or card for anyone at work during my whole working career.
