BERLIN (AP) — The head of the United Nations scientific panel on climate change urged diplomats and scientists to show "enlightenment" Monday, as they began a weeklong meeting aimed at spelling out in plain terms what options the world has if it wants to prevent catastrophic global warming.

Delegates at the closed-doors meeting in Berlin need to tackle a number of sensitive issues, including how best to cut carbon emissions and how to share the cost of shifting away from the fossil fuels that are largely blamed for producing the gases that are heating the planet. Their conclusions will feed into a landmark assessment report that will form the basis of negotiations for future climate treaties.

"I would urge the distinguished delegates to exercise a high level of enlightenment," said Rajendra Pachauri, the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. "The world needs a robust, policy-relevant and informative document."

I’ve observed that there is generally much more illumination available when one’s head is not in a place where a Proctologist needs to bring his flashlight.

Well, 75 out of 77 (97%) of "Scientists" believe in CAGW.

You can look it up, I'm not kidding.

Pretty revealing... here we have a UN panel meeting to decide what to do about an issue that (we’re told) could potentially affect everyone in the world, and they’re meeting in secret.

I am curious how many say that it is absolutely certain, no question, done deal, end of discussion. I am betting that you lose 90% when you phrase the poll that way.

Heck, I might even think that it is possible. Maybe 5% chance. Anything is possible.

However, with absolute certainty? Definitely not. Nothing is absolute in science. Especially with the models and measurement techniques.

And there is the usual “the risk is too great if we do nothing” argument.

I bet disbanding the panel isn’t one of the choices.

Agreed. It has been a long hard battle over the past three hundred years for the American people to get where we are to just pi$$ it away.

That’s the way they operate out in the “real world.”

It is a battle to get our own government to come clean, be open and forthcoming. It is much, much worse outside our borders.
